do the student loan people send you a letter at any point?
I applied online at the beginning of March and took my passport in by hand a week later - I then changed the Uni I'm going to 2 weeks ago which is showing as changed online.

I havn't heard anything from them yet?
    how long does it take?
    I'm a mature student (36) and independent.

frustrating as it would be nice to have something in writing - even to acknowledge your application - I guess that it's changed the Uni is some kind of acknowledgement so at least I know someone has actually 'touched' it!

I accepted the Uni place about 4 weeks ago and havn't got a letter from them yet... guess I'm wanting an instant response but I have no idea if you get a 'welcome pack' or letter from them either... does anyone else know what the usual time line is for this sort of stuff?

dont you have your art id and Secret answer yet ?
they are sent out after you apply online,
if you have them I would advise you just to double check your LEA are not awaiting on info from yourself.
if you dont have any of them call student finance direct
    Thanks for saying thanks

martin84, do you know what % it is this year for each term? I know what I am entitled to this year and everythings Approved but I just am, once again, being impatient hehe.

  • hi guys,

i'm new to this. i graduated 4 years ago with a degree and thought that the student loans company would just deduct money from my wages because i was earning more than the threshold amount of £15,000. i have been in employment ever since. I went bankrupt 2 years ago due to a lot of personal problems and i listed student loans as one of my debts....although i know that they arent considered.

The student loans company have never contacted me or deducted any money from my wages and now i feel really anxious and worried.

anyone got any advice or ideas for me?
  • Hi,

I graduated in 2006 and was sent letters that I should start repaying after April 2007. Since graduating I have been under the 15k threshold, however the last few months my monthly pay has been over the £1,250 amount, although basic salary remains under 15k pa. However, I have noticed no student loan has been deducted in these months where my gross pay has been over £1,250. My question is, should something come out as soon as the £1,250 barrier is broken? or will this start from my next monthly pay, due to the end of the last tax year being last month and presumably my employer letting the SLC know what I have earned in the last year and it being over 15kpa. Also on my last payslip I had something listed as 'Pl Loan' or something similar, but no deductions that i could see beside it. Could this relate to a student loan? Any help welcome.

    Thanks

gte in touch with them asap,
reemember if the debt hasnt been fixed due to your bankruptcy you will still bereceiving interest, and that would be quite an amount if you took it out 7-8 years ago.
the best number would be 0870 240 6298

    thats not the student loan,
its could be that your not yet matched up with the records, you can ask your employer if they have received an SL1, this is a notification to start deductions, if you at anytime of the year go over the £1250 monthly threshold to take deductions. if they havent received this then you could call them to get the deductions started. dont worry though your deductions wont be backdated

Hi Please can you help me. I'm a single mum to a 2 year old boy and really want to finish my college course before he starts school in 2010. I have nearly completed my first year in NC but still have HNC and HND to complete. The thing is I have been recieving benefits this year but have been told a Student Loan would be better for me. In your opinion would I be better off taking the Student Loan and completing my course in a year or do the HNC over two years and keep my benefits. Thank you for your help - I'm really confused by it all.

    Hi,
I couldnt say if you would really be better off as I dont know your financial situation, its best if you take the time and apply, remember you dont have to take out the loan/grant once its been assessed. there was a calculator last year that let you know how much you would get roughly, but has not been put up this year for some reason.
    Thanks for saying thanks
