    Hi,

I have had a couple of letters from SLC informing me that if i am living overseas then i need to notify them or risk a fine and possible court action.

I am living abroad (the specifics are a little complicated because i am an emergency aid worker) and i somewhat often return home on holidays

Can you please advise if it is possible for them to fine me and if in general this is something i should be concerned about?

    thank you,
  • I have searched everywhere for an answer, including Martin's info on student loans & the gov website... I am in my 40's, I already have a first degree & a master's, I am currently studying for a doctorate p/t in business admin., which is expected to take 4-5 years. I earn £60k working f/t in the City.

Am I correct in thinking there are NO student loan options as this isn't my first degree & it will take longer than 2 years? (Apart from trying to grub about for bursaries etc.) Fees are £6k for the first year & £4k for subsequent years.

    Thank you

When will my sons Student Loan be written off? He got the Loan in 2002 and has only actually met the wage threshold at which payments are taken for a few years since he graduated. Due to suffering Crohns disease, he has periods of long sickness and hence unemployment. They still add the Interest on though, even when he earns nothing!

I rang them up 5 years ago and was told at that time that te Loan was written off after 10 years, but then was told Rules changed and it was never written off - which is a worry as Interest is making the size of the Loan increase. With his Crohns, I worry that he will never be free of an ever increasing debt as he can never be in work long enough or earn enough, to pay it off.

It doesn't really matter that he never pays it off, as eventually it will be written off.

a lot of people who are consistently working never pay it off.

They do, like any other loan, add interest. It is to keep the money coming in. Though his interest rate will be lower than the current students are facing.

I wouldn't add it to the list of worries.

  • Hi
Not sure if this has already been answered but my daughter is going to university from sept this year and we are trying to fill in the student loan application forms.
It states that for parents/household income they look at gross income for 2013/2014 at which time i was self employed, whilst the income figures look ok once i have taken expenses and costs out it gets reduced substantially,so do i put down gross income or gross after expenses and costs.
    Hope this makes sense.
  • if you want to apply online student then please compare and check all loans term & conditions there are lot's of private lender can provide you loans on your conditions
  • Hi,

Starting a four year degree in Sept. I have been given a student loan of

    £9000 Tuition Fees and
    £4000 Maintenance Loan

I expect similar for the remainder of the course.

I am retired with an occupational pension of £21,800. (index linked) Does this count towards my income for repayment? (i have scoured the t&c's and it just isn't clear!)
    £1000 Emergency fund No90 £1000/1000
    LBM 28/1/15 total debt - [STRIKE]£23,410[/STRIKE] 24/3/16 total debt - £7,298

How old are you, and how long is the course? (You may be age exempt from repayments.)
