I'm getting myself confused now too!! Do you mind stating what course he is actually doing cause it is slightly different for medical/dental students, as opposed to nursing/ODP etc.
If doing a standard five year degree in medicine the first four years of funding would come from Student Finance(income assessed) and the fifth year from NHS whereas if doing a nursing degree the main part of funding would come from NHS with an entitlement to a non income assessed loan from Student Finance.
I was assuming it wasn't a medical degree because you said the NHS were paying tuition fees(?)0 -
Ok, I'm getting totally confused now! lol
So the maintenance loan from SFE is non means tested?
Does everybody get the same then?
Yes, the maintenance loan through SF, is non means tested

Its only the nhs basic bursary that is means tested. See link below for income details

He will be doing a 3 year dental hygiene and dental therapy degree.
There are no fees to be paid, NHS pay them/fund the course.0 -

Is it £2575?0 -
But if on a medical/dental degree then this will apply http://www.practitioners.slc.co.uk/media/543964/assessing_financial_entitlement_13-14_version_1.0_final.pdf (page 59 onwards)
cross posted-
So it appears that it is one of the courses that the NHS fund so tuition fees paid, £1,000 grant, a means tested bursary (max outside of London £4395, in London £5460 (subject to deduction on income assessment) and a non means tested loan from Student Finance (England?)0 -
Rates of non income assessed loan from Student Finance-
Living in London in rented-£3263, Living away from London rented £2324,
living with parents £1744.
And, just to confuse things even more, if the course is one of those that is 'extended' 'extra weeks allowances' will also be paid(that is to say if the course runs over 30 weeks and 3 days in the year)0 -

Yes, I read it as that. When I put all the figures in, it said he could get £3575 maintenance loan. So, is this the amount that everyone gets outside London & living away from home? Or, does that figure include his £1000 grant?0 -
Hello. I am looking for some advice regarding tuition fees.
I have applied to go to university to do a BA and have been accepted.
However, I have studied at a higher level before. I have got a HND in an unrelated subject, it was my understanding that it would be possible to study for a further year and complete a degree. The problem is that I did the HND over 20 years ago, my university wants me to start the degree from scratch. I have also contacted the Open University but the HND is too old to credit against a degree.
I am happy to do the whole degree but will the student loan company pay my tuition fees? I have spoken to them on the phone and they said that I need to write an appeal and get the university to write a letter confirming my previous study is to old. But they did not sound like they thought I would be succesful. I want to complete the BA so I can do a PGCE.
I will not be able to go without them paying all my tuition fees, has anyone heard of them paying the fees if people have studied previously? I would be grateful for any help or advice. Sorry to post this twice but I did not get a reply before and I am desperate. I cannot find any information about this anywhere, surely somebody must know the answer.0 -
