No it is not different at all. It is a residential college from 16 onwards. The college had in the past done its own bursaries. last year I paid 700.00 towards the fees. my dd is now in her second year and now has to 1705 only because this year incapacity benefit is now included as income. This is the first year this is the case as the government has tightened its criteria for bursaries etc. The goal posts have been altered by the government my income etc has not changed at all.
The fact that my son is starting in September make absolutely no difference to the money just the incapacity benefit which now included.0 -

As you seem to know the answer, I wonder why you've asked the question?0 -

Hi
I'm a career-changer looking to start a part-time PGCE in biology. I have a degree and have already paid off my student loans from back then. I am married with 2 small children and wondered if I was eligible for a student loan? Also, wondering what other help will be available as I'll not be working or if I do it'll be maybe 1 day a week!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks0 -

There's no maintenance funding for part time courses as it's assumed you'll be working or receiving support from elsewhere.0 -
Typically how long should it be before you receive confirmation of evidence you've sent in. In so much as whether it has made your application successful or not. I've waited five weeks so far. Thanks.0

I ask because DS2 has had his back fairly promptly, but DS3 is still waiting. DS2 is going into final year, DS3 into 2nd year. DS2 reckons that DS3 is dealing with a different company.
It could be worth calling them to check they really do have all they need? It can be hard to tell because last year we kept getting letters / emails to say they didn't have all they needed for DS3, but whenever we phoned they said they did.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
First year. I have considered calling them, but i've read in other places to wait 7 weeks as it takes them time to get through the evidence sent in. I was hoping someone might confirm or debunk this for me.0

First year application, or subsequent?

Student Finance England deals with all applications from England now, even for existing students. Any that were left with the LEAs got handed over to SFE earlier this year.0 -
Hi all, hope everyone's OK and not getting to stressed out by the SLC! I have a query and I wondered if anyone had an answer. My pasrtner and I are currently on Income Support together (the claim is in his name) and also he gets low-rate DLA, both mobility and care. If we had our own place, we would also get housing benefit at a one bedroom rate. We are both 25. I am due to start uni on Sept 21st, and although I haven't read anything solid on-line, what I have read seems to suggest that we can still claim some benefits, especially as the claim is in his name. Does anyone know what our entitlement might be? We will be living in our own place by the beginning of term as well, by the way. It would help to have this information, as the maintenance grant and loan from the SLC is plenty to support one person, it would hardly be enough to support us both if my partner loses all his benefit! If anyone has any idea, that'd be great, as it would save me a 5 mile trek to the Jobcentre only to be sent around the reakin etc.0
