Following this, I sent him an email to tell that I didnt like being threatened and that I had reported him to ebay. Heres his reply:-

Dear paulfoel,

YOU ARE NUTS. I REPEAT MY STATEMENT. IF THIS ITEM DOES NOT WORK I WILL COME AND PERSONALY RETURN THE ITEM AND GET MY MONEY BACK IF YOU DO NOT REFUND ME.
I WILL THEN REPORT YOU TO EBAY FOR SELLING ITEMS THAT ARE BROKEN BEYOND REPAIR.
THEN AGAIN IF THE ITEM DOES WORK AND YOU KNOW IT DOES WORK, FEAR NOT CAUSE ALL WILL BE WELL.

After this I gave him a refund and told him I didnt want to do business. Still waiting for ebay to comment on this...

There are all kinds of weirdos and unfortunately most of them frequent fleeBay.

I list UK only buyers, nevertheless had one who lived in USA but wanted me to post to an unconfirmed address in London. I told him he would have to pay by money order, BACS etc. as I would be in a difficult position if he made a false Paypal claim for non receipt. He send me a very nasty e mail calling me a f*** scamming B***. eBay sent me an auto acknowledge to my complaint but did nothing else.

I would suggest you add the buyer to your blocked bidders list. He may be the type who will bid then not buy, just to extract his revenge on you.

There is no sign of other problems with this buyer, I wonder if this is just a language issue? However I would certainly keep anything at all that he sends you via email in a folder in case you need to report him anywhere.

Incidentally may I offer some constructive critiscm of your own auctions?

Firstly you are wasting money by paying two lots of listing fees per item, having a start price and a BIN both at 99p. Why not just have one or the other and save money?

You also appear to be running at a loss, is that intentional? Two lots of listing fees, plus 10p FVFs and approx 29p per item fee to paypal barely gives you enough left to pay postage let alone buy an envelope. Your cables will go on a large letter stamp for instance which is 47p second class..you charge 30p?

You also want to sort out your despatch times, your stars at 4.5 are nearing borderline for a temporary suspension..get a few items out quickly and try and grab back another couple of points on that.

Thanks Soolin. I might need to increase the prices for these then.....

How do people manage to sell things for 99p then?

didnt realise that under 4.5 stars was bad !!!!

It's free to list items for 99p - you don't pay two listing fees but you might want to only list them as auctions.
I always charge at or less than the postage costs because people will reflect whatever you charge for postage in their bids.

It doesn't matter about your detailed seller rating unless you want to run an ebay shop. Although you may want to increase the stars so that people are happier to buy from you.

Star ratings do matter as if you hit 4.4 you are considered to be failing and any other problems might be enough for a 7 day suspension while you sort yourself out.

OP the first thing to do though is take one of the listing options out, just put a start price of 99p and as you are a private seller that will be free.

Just remember though as well the fees that paypal take, factor those into your profit margins.

This may well be a phishing mail, designed to get you to click on the "Respond Now" button that will then harvest your account and password.
I occasionally get stroppy mails from "buyers" when I haven't sold anything on ebay for almost a year.

But isnt a grade of 4 stars down as satisfactory?
Seems werid to be banned for just being OK.

If this is the case, ebay don't advertise it on their help pages.

Four stars means "accurate" "satisfied" "quickly" and "reasonable" so I don't see how they can say 4 stars is bad. (I have 4.9s for all my ratings so I'm not really bothered).

Now you see the problem - buyers are told 5 is perfect, and that 4 is good, yet eBay think any lower than 4.4 is bad - and as they only give FVF discounts to very high DSR scores you can see how this is to their advantage.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.
