hey fellow cambridgers, just a quick visit, busy busy again  still guess it stops me thinking of picking food...day 30 something or another....maybe 37 or 38 have lost count which is probably a good thing :T haven't got so far in such a long time !25 days until my birthday night out and add a meal along with a couple of voddy and coke, will be half way through almost by then :T going to do add a meal for 3 - 4 days before hand, make sure i'm not doing any damage, and just have a couple, and drink diet coke inbeteen and no one will be any the wiser !
hi PM welcome to the boards, unfortunately can't give you too much advice about the pan Asian meal but am sure some of the others will be able to help !
Good luck to you all have another successful cambridge day0 -
Errrr, PM, you DON'T have to eat at the meal! It's very dangerous to stop and start, mentally as you weaken your resolve to diet....
Either:
(a) make your excuses and don't go (after all, are they people you'd choose to socialise with?) or
(b) just say you're not feeling well and don't want to eat but want to join them and you're drinking water rather than wine etc to keep your head clear and get better or
(c) tell them that you're dieting and won't be eating.
When I first started out, I avoided social occasions with people I don't know that well like the plague. Now I'm back on, I'm proud of what I've achieved so far and am not ashamed or shy to tell people that I'm dieting and won't be eating. At the end of the day, noone cares whether you eat or not, they just want your company0 -
Hi PM, welcome:)
Piratess - it certainly feels like! How much do you have to lose? 2st for me - well, 1st 6 now:D but I may need to reassess when I am nearly there as a bit more might be needed:cool:
HEREWEGOAGAIN - if you are wanting a drink on your birthday (and I don't blame you) it is safest to get yourself out of ketosis otherwise the booze can cause damage more easily, so a slice of toast might be a good idea.0 -
Skintbutsolvent - i spoke to my CDC and she advised going out and just having 5 packs and no food  mental if you ask me !! I think to be honest i'm just going to play the whole night be ear....if i'm still feeling strong i'm just going to go out and drive, not great but I just think it will be easier to keep me going until my goal :T in May time...will be able to celebrate then...will see....just trying to take it one day at a time at the mo and stay being a saint :A
I'm quite happy with the no eating at meals, as much as it sucks, but next Friday am off out for a birthday and have explained I won't be eating but am happy to go to the 'meal' as such....always such a reward when I come home and haven't eaten or drank.....lets just hope i can keep that way of thinking for my birthday0 -
HEREWEGOAGAIN - at your CDC!!!!! Here is a quote found on a weightloss forum, many others if you google ketosis and alcohol:DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL IF YOU ARE KETOTIC!
Alcohol is a powerful inhibitor of gluconeogenesis. In fact, it forces part of the gluconeogenic metabolic process into reverse. This means that if all the glucose in the blood is being derived from gluconeogenesis then the consumption of alcohol will inevitably cause the blood glucose level to fall. Worse still, the alcohol also stops ketone body production, thus leaving the brain entirely without fuel.
A person who is ketotic is 100% reliant on gluconeogenesis to maintain adequate levels of glucose in the blood. If, under these circumstances alcohol is taken, the person will become disorientated and might lose consciousness, not just from the alcohol, but from low blood sugar. Needless to say, this could be very dangerous, and even fatal.
Alcohol does not have these effects if the glycogen stores in the liver are normal. Under these circumstances the blood glucose level in the blood is maintained by the breakdown of liver glycogen, a process that is not influenced by alcohol. If a person becomes confused under these circumstances it is due simply to the pharmacological effects of the alcohol!
and just to clarify... ketotic is a medical term referring to any circumstance in which low blood glucose is accompanied by ketosis. Which is the case for those of us on VLCD
Fantastic if you decide to stick to water on the night, good for you:T0 -
