agreed- it does help sometimes to have an outsider's perspective on a situation (whether children or any other issue). if people are worn down they can have lower confidence & need confirmation what they're doing is right. their whole perspective can change if they're shown methods which actually work in practice. a different environment/changing the existing environment can help. it's ok reading about it in a book- it's a different matter implementing it.Homer I would share the same view as you but sometimes it's not so easy as to just do what it says in a book, you need someone to watch and make sure you are doing it right otherwise you doubt yourself especially if it doesn't have instant results which most of the methods taught don't. If your child has been misbehaving for a while it is hard to just change overnight because you are worn down and are more likely to give in, but on the week away you would be watched so couldn't and hopefully on return home it is a routine already.
The show is the equivelant of getting a free intesive course which I presume would cost a lot otherwise.0 -
Perhaps the kids' school could help on a longer term basis - our primary school has a family worker who is available to anyone wanting help with parenting issues. If yours doesn't have a FW of their own i'm sure they could refer you to someone thru the education authority as there's more money and help around for parenting skills than there used to be.
Good luck!

As the mother of a teenager I have found the program "My teens a nightmare I'm leaving home" to be very good. Its being repeated on ITV 2 at the moment.0

If you're having problems, why not?
I've seen the show, and to be honest, there are families that you watch, and think, 'oh well obviously they're going to misbehave'.
But, we all know, that when you're living in a situation, it's hard to see the wood for the trees.
So, if you get the chance, go fo rit. She quickly highlights the problems, and why they're there, then quickly works out helpful strategies. It certainly can't make things worse.
Good luck.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0
