  • I wouldn't but everyone is different. If you really can't cope and have looked at help at home then maybe it might help you.

I'd watch it if you can, it's on this week, at 8pm (I think) BBC3, I get it on freeview. It's a very intense process, Tanya is good, but you should be prepared that she works on the basis that behavioural problems in young children are a product of the parent. She doesn't blame but it will be you doing the changing, not your children. She also offers alot of support to the parents, but it is all laid bare, and you will be exposing some of your innermost anxieties on public telly. But it is all represented very fairly and evenly, it's not the type of program that sensationalises problems and Tanya is very professional. It always amazes me how good she is at communicating with the families and children, and how well she can assess a situation.

They normally have three families, and usually one family is a single parent family. The results she gets in one week are amazing though.

I'd say definitely watch it first so that you know what you are getting into. Good luck!

I would absolutley jump ast the chance if I were you the way they help you is fantastic. I have seen a lot of the shows and all the families who have been on have been helped tremendously..Tanya who is the lady from the show has great compassion and is very astute and honest and will give you all the help you need..All the families who go don't want to leave they have learnt so much..Let us know what you decide..Good Luck

I've only ever watched snippets of the show, but they do seem to get results! It can be a bit probing though. They make the parent(s) confront why they might not be communicating with their children, or if they have issues with the way they were parented. Seems like parents and children are re-educated together.
Given that the show is on national TV you would have to weigh up the benefits against the fact that all your problems will be aired in front of the viewers. Although I expect you can ask for particular bits to be edited out, the producers won't want to - as they are likely to be the "best" bits, as far as they are concerned.

  • Hi all
Thanks for your replies and thoughts so far, i dont have freeview or sky, is it on normal tv?? or does anyone have an episode they have taped that i could borrow??

I am quite keen but OH is really NOT, i do worry what people will think of us! And i do know that the problems lie with our parenting and not just the children so i am perpared for that.

I will have to have a serious think about it, we will find out over the next few days as to wether Tanya wants us or not!

    Regards

  • I watch the program sometimes too and if you really do have problems then definately give it a go if you don't mind exposing your anxieties on tv as Tondella says, but Tanya is amazing with what she does.

I always admire people who go on this programme I never judge because in my opinion it takes a GOOD parent to admit they need help and want to make changes..

  • I would watch it first of all, it is showing on BBC3 most nights, you could ask a friend to record it, if you don't have digital tv. Then decide if the problems are something you can use the advice gleamed from the current shows.

I think the show are very supportive and I don't think they will show you in a bad light. However, I would say ensure you think of all the options. Are you split from your husband/father of the children, could he use it against you in the future, etc.

Talk to as many neutral people as possible and then find out what is and is not possible with the show makers

the usual what will my family think etc etc.. stuff your family sorry to be so blunt its you that is having the problems with your children and it is you who is trying to sort it out with whatever means and help you can get.. watch it and decide but if you think it will help build up your relationship with your children then go for it..
