Aah, Mr Bond! How are you? By the sounds of it very much settled in now and loving the sunshine!
Just two weeks to go until I make the move, hence being off-radar for a while - you don't realise all the rubbish you have accumulated until you have to sort it out!
I got that Amex card I told you about - did you have any luck?
I wanted to get your advice re medical insurance. A friend of mine in the US is with Morgan Price (purely for extreme cases - natural disasters, hospitalisation and also ambulance costs) but their premium is pretty steep. I called my travel insurance company and they do both a long-stay and a backpacker's insurance plan for 12 and 18 months. As long as you return to the UK for two weeks at the end of the plan, you can then renew and take out a new one. The travel insurance route is a fair bit cheaper and seems to cover the same things - any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!0 -
Am dreaming of 1.75 all the way0

Yep. loving the weather. 79F at the moment. Heading down to the ball park in a couple of hours to watch the Reds against the "World Champion" Phillies!
I've not tried Amex yet as I'm waiting for my social security number. It takes up to 4 weeks after entering the country. That's a week today... I will try after that though! You can do zilch here without one
The good lady wife is still at home sorting out all the house. we've got a shipping company coming in who will pack everything for us. "All" she needs to do is to throw out what they leave behind!
I can't really help on the insurance. I get health insurance through the company.
1.75... Yeah.. that would be nice! Saying that 1.5790 looks good against the 1.5350 that I traded at!0 -

You're certainly not missing anything weather-wise here! Hope the baseball was fun.
Yep social security does take a while. So do the shipping companies!
Gutting about the 1.5350 but look on the bright side - at least you didn't buy it when it dipped into the 1.30s!0 -
Trading at 1.575 as I turn in for the night. Funny, I'm gonna be changing around £1800 in October. When I first started tracking the rate in early March, we were looking at about 1.375. At the current 1.575 I now get an extra 20c to the pound, so I have "made" $360 in two months. Let's hope it stays good eh guys? Night all.0

09:30 21May09 UK retail sales rise much more than expected in April
LONDON, May 21 - British retail sales rose much more than expected in April with most sectors doing well, official data showed on Thursday, in a sign that consumer spending is still holding up in the face of economic recession.
But government borrowing hit a record high for the month of April -- the first month of the new tax year -- as the shrinking economy has battered the public finances.
The Office for National Statistics said retail sales volumes rose 0.9 percent last month, nearly double analysts' forecasts of a 0.5 percent gain. In March, sales rose 1.1 percent on the month.
On the year, sales rose 2.6 percent in April after a 0.9 percent gain in March.
Analysts may still be sceptical about the data following widespread methodological changes to the series that has led to substantial revisions after criticism that the figures did not tally with other survey evidence.
The ONS said public sector net borrowing hit 8.468 billion pounds in April, compared with 1.836 billion pounds in the same month a year ago.
That was a record for the month of April but roughly in line with expectations.
The public sector net cash requirement came in at 5.151 billion pounds, also an April record and versus a surplus of 2.884 billion pounds in the same month last year. Please take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk
