married but passport in maiden name

This obviously wasn't an issue when we went on honeymoon three years ago straight after the wedding. I took the wedding certificate with me and it was photocopied at check-in
Hubby booked two flights to Malta a few months ago and we just pulled out everything and realised the passport is still in my maiden name. We fly in a couple of weeks.
We read the terms and conditions of the Ryanair flights and it says the following:
"Failure to present valid photo-ID matching the names on your reservation will result in your being refused check-in"
Does anyone have any experience of this with a Ryanair flight and passport in maiden name?
I don't have any other photo-ID.

Yes, FR are '!!!!!!s' for doing this.
We had this problem in 2003, Drove all the way down to STN and we realised that my wife's passport was in her maiden name!
But FR being FR, Showed no interest whatsoever and were going to charge us 130.00 for a flight to BRU.
So we simply left it at that!!
You only need the slightest mistake when flying with FR and they use this as an 'Excuse' to charge you.
No wonder Michael O'leary is one of the most succesful Airline Bosses ever!!
He even occasionally calls into the Cockpits and tells the pilot's how much fuel to load for the flights!!
One of my colleagues was a FR pilot, And he once met Michael O'leary, He said that he was 'Swearing F...ing this and F...ing that!!
He REALLY does make money for FR!!
And out of Pax that don't know what they are doing or disorganised!!

Ignore the plane driver with his FR, PAX, STN which is telling you nothing, it doesn't matter which airline you are flying with. You need to get your passport changed now. It can be done very quickly via post nowadays but if you have a passport office nearish you might be better going there in person.0 -
No airline will let you fly with a passport that doesn't match the name on the reservation, Ryanair or not.
As others have said I would get your appplication in quick so you can get a passport bearing in mind we are heading for summer holiday time0 -
Thanks guys.

I should point out that's not strictly true, many do make an exception for women who have recently married, but still have a passport in their maiden name. I travelled this way three years ago and my sister-in-law travelled with her husband on business for several years after they were married without changing her passport.
As long as you have your marriage certificate with you for them to photocopy at check-out, they are fine. Otherwise many newly married women would not be able to go on honeymoon after their 'enthusiastic' grooms book tickets in their new married name as a surprise (as mine did) and don't think about the passport issue. If you think about it, all that the passport office require to change the passport is my marriage certificate and a signed declaration from me. If they are happy to issue a new passport based on that, why wouldn't the airline be happy to accept the marriage certificate as proof?
However, knowing that Ryanair can be sods for gathering as much money as possible and there has been a security crackdown in recent years, I thought it wise to see if anyone had any experience of being turned away by them, and my suspicions have been confirmed. So I need to get myself to a passport office as quickly as possible.
Thanks for all your help"carpe that diem"0 -
Airlines don't care what name you are known as normally - just as long as the name on the ticket matches the name on the passport. I've got plenty of clients still travelling on their maiden name as the passport isn't due to expire for a few years. Take your marriage certificate to prove that you are the same person but you are unlikely to get away with travelling without charges.I am a Travel Agent My company’s ATOL/ABTA numbers are S0466/3973. I would go and get passport renewed at the passport office. Then there will be no more mistakes in the future. You will still need to change it at some point so why not now.0
