with regards to material why not use old clothes etc cut up either ones you no longer want or from charity stores.
I am currently having a massive sort out and saving some for making a quiltI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
a question for anyone has had anything to do with fabric paint and little fingers on quilts.
I am planning a patchwork quilt for my son's cot bed. My intention is to use white and shades of blue (cut from cotton bed sheets) with his handprint printed with fabric paint on some of the white patches (scraps of coordinating fabric/buttons etc on the others).
Any ideas as to the best fabric paint to use would be appreciated. I obviously want it to wear reasonably well in the wash but would also like to be able to remove it easily from his little fingers!
Thanks in advance0 -
Hi, I've been following this thread with interest for a few days. I keep a journal/blog about my efforts in saving to be a millionairess the thrifty way (if that is at all possible - I'll find out eventually) and I'm always on the lookout for tips about saving money by 'old-school' means (since I'm not earning that much and have tried and failed to learn about investing). I think I am doing pretty well so far, but I'm now taking things one step further and trying to utilise leftovers from any of my projects so they can be recycled again.
I make my own clothes/accessories most of the time (or buy in charity shops), so I'm not spending a lot there. But once these are unwearable and unfixable (and by that I mean the item is more holes than material), I just donate them to a material collection charity. However, I would really like to re-use the material if possible and have been thinking about getting into quilting or patchworking (not sure what the correct term is).
So... how long does it take to store enough 'patches' to make, say, a patchwork cushion cover? And assuming it takes a year or so to build up enough material leftovers, do you need to store it properly to stop the fabric disintegrating further? Is there anything you can use to strengthen it? Anything obvious that I'm missing? And does it matter how small the patches are (say, if there is only a tiny bit of reusable material left from the original item)?Savings: £60,029.70 (+ I don't know how much BTC/ETH)
