Good Morning,
I haven't made a quilt in a long while, but have one planned for this year - a small wall-hanging with a musical theme. Just need to wait until after the holidays and I get my craftroom back to get to my machine - it's an old treadle machine and I love it! I inherited it from it's original owner and have been using it for 20 odd years - its made kiddie clothes, curtains, bedding, pressies - anything I need it for.
I've been looking for one of those "round robins" - I really fancy one but haven't had any luck - anyone know of a UK one I could join?
Thanks, and lovely to meet you all

Hi,
im new to this bored and your post about making a patchwork quilt threw me back to when my nan was here, she used to make patchwork blankets and knitted all the individual squares then she would sew them together. Gave her something to do while grandad was at the pub LOL:rolleyes:. she made all seven grandkids one year and I still have mine somehere, wish she had taught me to knit. she never used to buy the wool either she would hunt round charity shops and buy old jumpers then just undo all the jumper and use that wool.£365.00 in 365 day challenge = £5.00/£365.00:rolleyes:0 -
Just found this thread while searching for patchwork quilt making
I have no artistic talent at all and was really daunted at some of the elaborate designs but different shades of the same colour sounds a great idea.

Hello LL
If you live in East London Walthamstow market is one of the best places I have found for cheap cotton fabrics which is what you need for a quilt. I would start with a simple design like Log Cabin (if you type in Google a lot of sites have instructions). You could do one leg dark blue and one light blue (backgrounds or single colours). I made a fabulous quilt that I gave to my granddaughter last year just from odd scraps some from markets some from e bay and some just bits and pieces from charity shops. A warning though - This can be addictive!

for the past few years I've been mulling over making an all white patchwork with different patterned and textures of white fabrics - been collecting a few bits from charity shops, children clothes and bedding etc - I might just make 2010 the year i finally get on with it - thanks for the inspirationPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

my big tip is after sewing one fragment to another, press the seams flat
also ask on freecycle for fabric remnants

Dear LilacLillie,
Thank you very much for the kind words about my roman blinds!
I am going to follow your progress closely and if you want me to come along to markets to pick up fabric, I am up for it. For one, there is Deptford Market that always has lovely fabric stalls but also very good second hand clothes very cheap. Then there is Woolwich market, also cheap fabric stalls, and also there is a stall in Lewisham. Then of course not far from you there are all the stalls in Whitechapel. We could start a fabric stash project and walk loads (good for health!) in the process!
I need to get cheap or free fabric too because I am getting into morsbagging (in case anyone wants to know about this, here is the link that explains everything: http://www.morsbags.com/). The name of my pod is Cool Crafters Morsbag Factory!
Best of luck and lots of love

Hello all,
I was immediately attracted by this thread because I've wanted to make a quilt for ages. I have made small quilts by hand and years ago used to make machine patchwork - very simple, just squares randomly arranged. I want to do something similar to make a duvet cover this year.
I have saved various 100% cotton fabrics (mostly bits of clothing, eg. my daughter's pyjamas) with this in mind and now want to start working out sizes of squares etc...hoping someone more experienced can help. Has anyone made a patchwork duvet cover? I'd love to hear your words of wisdom.
