Ryanair - change passport details

My wife and I are travelling to London to pick up her new (Czech) passport.
I hae entered the details for her old passport for online check-in, as she will be using this for the outward journey.
I called Ryanair a few days ago, and was told that we could change it for the return journey when we check-in online for that leg. This is not possible on the website. I was told if there was a problem with this, that I could call, and they could change it at no cost, and then I could re-print it.
I have called again today to double check, and I am now told that, because the number and expiry date will have changed, that she will have to check in at the airport, costing £20.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? There is no information on the website regarding this. It simply says to call the helpline to change document details, but now I'm told that is not possible.
Surely this is a situation that has happened before, i.e. people on holiday losing their passport and given an emergency one with different number/date???
I have flown Ryanair twice already this year with no problems...would hate it to start now.

I have called again, and now been told that I can do it over the phone once we have the new passport, free of charge!!! Absolutely no consistency with the information conveyed.0

Quick question please. I have booked Ryanair online for a family holiday.
I have since renewed my passport, so the number will have altered. How do I change this on my booking form prior to flying (August)? I'm getting worried that I won't be allowed to fly if the numbers don't correspond!
Any advice please?0 -
You shouldn't have needed your passport details for booking but you do need your passport number etc for online check-in which you do up to 15 days before you fly. As long as your passport number corresponds with your passport on your boarding card you will be alright.0

That's great. Many thanks for your quick reply.
I'm also going to alter the kid's baggage details, but that seems simple enough to do.
Thanks again Edinburghlass0 -
One last thing - we need to alter my wife's mail address as we have changed internet provider. Is this done when booking online also?
Sorry to sound a faff *rse, but I haven't got a lot of confidence in Ryanair after hearing some horror stories!0 -
You can access your booking via the Manage My Booking on the left hand side of the Ryan Air website. You can use 3 different ways of accessing your booking which you can look at now and see but I'm not sure that changing an email address will be one of the options?
You need your reservation number and/or card number or just the dates of flying, destination and the email address used at the time of booking. If you can't change the email address then I'd keep checking your booking just incase they have tried to email you change of times or anything as they do email you with checking in instructions, luggage allowance etc in the week before your flight.0 -

Most Ryanair 'horror stories' are the result of passenger stupidity as opposed to Ryanair. From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -

Easy Tiger!
Which is why we have no intention of becoming 'stupid passengers'.
I'm sure our flight will go without a hitch.
Thanks again Edinburghlass.0 -
