    Small Claims Court.

Definitely the way forward in this. Get a solicitor onto it. Don't feel brow beaten as you are of course in the right. And that's all that's important.

British Gas did after all threaten to take me to Court over 15p. And the HMRC recently made someone bankrupt over 87p.

It's the principle. Yes, get a solicitor onto it.

So does everyone else on here REALLY pick it up every single time they're overcharged 31p or not paid 31p for work done?

How do they ever have enough time to actually get any work done?

This is obviously the board of "the real" tight wads/ misers:rotfl:
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

The entire forum you mean? I saved 17p at Tesco this morning, which I wouldn't have known about if I hadn't have spent 3-hours browsing this site. :D

Sorry but who is the tight !!!! here the landlady who is only asking what is due or the tenant who isn't paying their way. This is such a small amount that the tenant is playing games.

The OP is going to have to tackle this face to face and make it plain that if the tenant isn't willing to honour their agreement then the tenant will have to find somewhere else to live.

To all those who think the OP is petty, I don't think your attitude would be the same if you were in this position.

    Epic Fail.

Believe it or not, even if I were in the OPs position I would still have the same attitude. Recently I had a complaint against Audi where I felt they owed me £15. That was borderline but I felt it worth writing a letter about. They posted me a letter with a cheque.. and no stamp. It cost £1.27 in 'handling fees' for me to retrieve the letter. Did i chase Audi for the £1.27? No, because that would be pathetic - I'd rather get on with my life.

I am actually shocked that so many people on here think 31p is worth the stress and hassle of chasing even to the extent that some people would go to court over it! It's quite sad that some people value 31p over a human relationship.

Gosh, four pages of responses. I am gobsmacked!!!

    Thanks all who replied.

The reason I mailed her instead of speaking to her is because I don't really see her that much. By the time she gets home from the gym, it's time for me to have my shower and get ready for bed. Also I sent her a breakdown of the bills (again) to show where my additions came from to explain the rent of £xxx.31.

My issue here isn't really the 31p. It's the fact that I asked her once and she dismissed it then went and did it again a second time. That is what is winding me up about her.

Apart from that, she is fine hence why I don't know if it happens again with June's rent if I should bring it up again.

And the reason why I don't do all inclusive with rent and bills is because I did that with my last lodger who really took the mick and put the heating on 30'C and shouted at me and called me stingy when I told her I was dripping with sweat as it was too hot in the house. She got booted out after two months.

Although this one did take the biscuit a bit when she asked me to rent out the other bedroom and split the bills 50/25/25. She uses the heating, showers more, uses the cooker and washing machine A LOT more than I do! Although I don't make a fuss over that because it's still cheaper to split a higher bill than if I were to live alone and pay it all myself.

    .

Nothing like a semi-trivial matter with lots of angles to attract many posters. Now if she had been an axe wielding maniac threatening your life people would have run a mile and you would be left on your own to decide how to deal with her.
