Believe it or not, even if I were in the OPs position I would still have the same attitude. Recently I had a complaint against Audi where I felt they owed me £15. That was borderline but I felt it worth writing a letter about. They posted me a letter with a cheque.. and no stamp. It cost £1.27 in 'handling fees' for me to retrieve the letter. Did i chase Audi for the £1.27? No, because that would be pathetic - I'd rather get on with my life.

I am actually shocked that so many people on here think 31p is worth the stress and hassle of chasing even to the extent that some people would go to court over it! It's quite sad that some people value 31p over a human relationship.

But you chased them for the £15.00, I don't consider £15.00 a lot of money.

Its not just about the amount there is a principal. An agreement was made that is not being honoured, this has now happened twice. I don't value 31p over a relationship, but there is something fundamentally wrong when one side of a relationship thinks it can disregard agreements with the other party, this is disrespectful.

Sorry but I fail to see how the OP is at fault.

If it is so trivial, the tenant should just pay up - especially if she wants knickers to wear - and a home to live in next month.

"Although this one did take the biscuit a bit when she asked me to rent out the other bedroom and split the bills 50/25/25.

Sorry to post in this thread again, when it's already a dead horse flogged to absolute death but this is the other bedroom where she gets to store her extra stuff for free, is it? I'd really like to know why she might have thought that getting a third person to share would mean her own percentage of the bills would be halved and your own share would remain the same and not split equally three ways.

Like I said before, I truly believe that she's a cheeky chancer and this will not be the last of your troubles with this girl. Next transgression and I'd ask her to leave, personally. I hope you've got a kitty going for common purchases like tea-bags and loo rolls cos she sounds like the type who'd hoard those in her bedroom or wait for you to give up and pay for them yourself. I've had lodgers myself and can't describe the depths some folk will descend to, to avoid putting their hands in their pockets. I once had a lodger who lived with me for over a decade and NEVER bought anything, ever

my last lodger... ...shouted at me and called me stingy

Maybe it will happen again.

Maybe the 31p is the what the lodger is charged to pay you via their bank and your lodger has deducted it.

My issue here isn't really the 31p. It's the fact that I asked her once and she dismissed it then went and did it again a second time. That is what is winding me up about her.

Of course the issue is the 31p - the fact that you asked her for 31p in the first place says it all. Most people have that in their sofa, at the bottom of their hand bag, in their pockets (though I doubt you do:o). You have a good tennant but I'm not sure you deserve her....
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

She isn't a tenant, she's lodger and she hasn't been there long enough to prove she's a good one.

I'm expecting a thread not unlike Badgergirl's at some point in the future.

Not only does old Shaggydoo think it's fine for people to renege on agreements they have made, s/he thinks it okay to flout copyright ................guess artists are greedy capitalist tightwads too.

Check the cartoon stock website Shaggydoo -
"Can I use any of your images free of charge?

We are always happy to help if we can but we have to protect the rights of the artists we represent. Due to the agreements we have with our artists, we do not have the right to grant use of any of their images without the appropriate fee being paid."

    Then check out MSE's Ts&Cs:
"....9.2 You may not use the chat forums or any of our comms systems for any illegal purpose and in particular you will not:
9.2.1 post or transmit material that infringes the intellectual property rights or other rights of others..."
Never mind "priceless", presumably your reproduction, as above, was fee-less? Just because it's on the net doesn't mean that it's free - ignoring copyright is definitely what I'd call showing a lack of respect for others.
