Rubbish!! It's the Landlord's house. The person in question is a lodger. Chuck them out!
Already asked for a reduction in rent, and then had the cheek to suggest another lodger so that his/her share is cut down.
Will eventually stop paying. Get them out and get someone else who respects you in there.
Its YOUR property and YOU decide who is in there...get rid now!!0 -
rent review, rent now 31p cheaper. no need to change bank payment.
everyone happy.0 -
There is a lot of overreaction going on here. At the end of the day renting out a room is effectively business, and do you really want to upset your client if the only issue is a 31p tiny proportion of the total payment missing?
All the people who keep banging on about how it's only 31p obviously can't hear the whooshing noise that is the whole point of this going right over their head.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
lol, I do wonder what is the point this lodger is trying to prove? How is underpaying by 31p sending a message to the landlord? :rotfl:
If it were me, I wouldn't dream of paying my landlord a penny more or a penny less than what was in the contract. I don't know why so many people here don't see it as an issue. Would you be happy if Tesco short changed you? Yes it's a small amount but after the second month, the lodger is doing this deliberately now for whatever petty reason. The OP needs to get to the botttom of whatever issue the lodger is trying to prove and nip that in the bud, not the 31p underpayment.0 -
I know 31p sounds petty but surley the lodger should be paying the amount specified in their contract. How would you all feel if your council tax was £99.69 a month but the council billed you for £100 per month, after all its only 31p.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

Who is in charge? Erm, no one. The lodger rents the house and expects certain things in return. The landlord rents out a house and expects rent in return. It's a two way relationship and they both have a contract to keep to and to find a way to live together peacefully.
Anyone who took the attitude of 'I'm in charge' when it comes to taking on a lodger or a house share is probably in for a bumpy ride. If you open your home up to a lodger then you have to accept that it becomes their home too and you can't treat them like a subordinate. I guess some people might put up with it but I would always look elsewhere for a slightly more conciliatory landlord.
No, no!!!! That is just SO wrong?!!!
Don't you know that the landlord is the Master, He Who Must Be Obeyed, whilst the tenant is part of the feudal serf class, who must always do exactly what they're told?
Didn't they teach you that at serf/tenant school?
Whatever next, people might start to think tenants were actually normal people paying for a service!0 -
I have a sneaking suspicion that whilst the tenant may have just accidentally forgotten the 31p the first time, since receiving an email !!!!!! from the person they live with demanding 31p, they are now deliberately retaliating and holding back the 31p.
Any normal person would have just sad over breakfast or something "You forgot 31p - I'll take it off next month's bills" or something - or just rounded the next bill up to include the 31p without mentioning it at all.
I bet they're having a right old laugh about you with their friends!
I mean my landlord rings me and I don't even live with her!
What kind of weirdo emails someone they live with about 31p?0
