Freeview not working - help

Options
Hi,

I moved into a new build (block of apartments) this weekend and plugged my TV (it has freeview built in) into the aerial on the wall. When I tried to set up my freeview channels nothing comes up and when I reverted back to the analogue channels the reception is really bad and not all of them come up. I tried different cables to see if that made a difference but nothing.

The TV has been working fine with an aerial and the freeview channels in the previous place I was.

I have logged onto the freeview website to see if they cover my area but as a new build, my address doesn’t seem to be registered yet. I’m in a built up area of Essex so would be surprised if it wasn’t covered.

Can anyone suggest what I should do to get it working?

I'm also planning to connect phone and broadband in shortly and wonder if i should include sky (cable doesnt work in my area) and do a bundle if there is no other way to get round this?

Thanks PP

I would check with your neighbours and the builder to see if an aerial is connected to your wall socket.
  • Thanks, Will check with the neighbours though no sure who the builder is but i think my landlord would have the details.

That may indeed be the issue, you might not be getting a digital signal at all.
  • I emailed Freeview customer services, and they suggested I got in touch with a local aerial engineer as they were unable to confirm coverage.

As suggested above it may be easier, cheaper and quicker to ask a neighbour.

Is that they only aerial socket in your flat?
  • Think there is one in the bedroom, Will check that this evening when i get in and with the neighbours.

    Thanks

Is there an aerial on the roof of the building? The existence of a socket doesn't guarantee that the developer's have supplied an aerial.
For Freeview reception, check with your neighbours.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • If the developers havent supplied an aerial - what would be my options?

    thanks

Depends on what your leaseholder says about external aerials/dishes etc. If they've fitted aerial sockets, I'd be surprised if they hadn't cabled it up to the loft/roof area too-usually some communal arangement in new builds. Could be an aerial and it's badly aligned, or a problem with the cabling to your flat.
That's why you really need to talk with your neigbours to find out is it's you or the whole block.

The management company will have to be informed as it will benefit all residents living there and will be paid out of your service charge.:T
