Still, one of the important points of HIgh End retail is havung the skill to be polite to people you think are high end rear end Bleepers. :)

Its entirely possible Dopesters experience is entirley not applicable to others. He's allowed to disagree, and I do think he's been a good catalyst. And a good sport.

    You're absolutely right.

My interview outfit was from ebay and cost me less than £30. Oh and I don't have a Merc, got a 5 year old Micra, with holes in the bumper so I'm not meaning to offend anyone that doesn't buy expensive suits or cars x

There are other demands on finaces when job seeking my parents, for example, might not have had.

Email/net accss being one of them. In this area, with no car you'd be reliabnt on cyclint to the nearest library with computer access, which is I think about 8 miles away. (the closer libraries are not opn daily, but not sure if they hav computer access or not:they didn't used to). and a phone line.

If you are not pretty instantly contactable it can be a problem. Many employers expect application via email, and a contact number that means they can get you: this often means a mobile. On can argue they are not ssential: I think for all but very basic work they pretty much are now.

LIR.. I've avoided answering you about the dog. Small girly-type dog if you must know. Rescued, as I didn't particularly want a dog but couldn't help but involve myself in the circumstances. Yes.. I still associate the costs. Pet insurance ect. The responsibility of having a dog.

OMG - i just read the rest of that story, Max. Sell the damn watch will you. I bet it has already lost a lot of resale value. Values are only going to fall further. You not read any of my posts? "If you've got it, sell it." Get a cheap replica if you must impress.

That is what happens in recessions / deflationary depressions. People need to raise cash so they sell off their valuable items... except with so many people doing it.. accepting lower prices.. it brings down the values for all owners who still keep.

BTW.. what I wrote was reasonable. Asking why you needed a car. Suggesting you could borrow/hire a good suit and car to "impress" for interviews... and walk/cycle for daily needs.

On JSA... running costs, insurance, car-tax ect. Let's hope your impressing comes to something fast.

Somehow my suit/car points has been twisted into something entirely to meet your viewpoint. As for the other stuff directed my way in what might be some anger.. something about "young-beyond-your years, done nothing, been nowhere," I'm not going to rise to it.

... frankly, a little dog isn't going to do: we're relying on that dog. ;) I think its sweet you have girly type dog. I bet you love him/her really. You can always give it a butch hair cut.
    That made me laugh :)
    Proper out loud laughing.

I always wear suits for interviews... it IS the rules.

Mind you, my "suit" has been dumbed down from the lowly Alexons I used to wear 8 years ago in IT departments, to a collection I put together myself with a total cost of £23 ... but it's smart and businesslike.

I'm not really into clothes - and feel uncomfortable in most. A whole raft of stuff just doesn't fit or suit me. But I do at least scrub up well for the interview and the first few days at work... what I then do is check out what the others are doing and then adjust my attire in keeping with my role, tenure, rate and potential for being offered more work there. However, next time I get a £50k job (2001 was the last time, but still hoping) ... I'll go straight out and get a row of the posh stuff, just for work. Into the shop, stick my arm out and say "I'll take from here ... *move along a bit* ... to here"

Just did 2 days' work, had been there before so knew the score. Yesterday: dress, tights, leather shoes, proper jacket. Today, jeans/stillettos and a hoody. First impressions ... then blend in.
