Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Max,
So very very sorry to hear you didn't get the Mercedes job. I've been checking your blog more than once a day to check. I would never have imagined feeling that it mattered so much about the job hunt of someone I've never met.
Here's hoping the Ford one works out.

Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Same here Max, really disappointed for you as well. It's so disheartening when you don't get a job you really want, even more so because of your current situation.
I read the updates on this thread and your blog every day (even though I don't post very often) and, like Lydia, I can't believe I care so much about someone I don't know finding a job!0 -

Awww... thanks guys. :grouphug:
I must admit, of all the possibilities and all the let downs, this has been the biggest so far.
Ah well, I'm sure it's all character building, or something...
Thanks for all of your support, it's appreciated.

The only thing that will have gone against you with Mercedes is your lack of experience in the motor trade. Nail the Ford job, get the experience and in future you will be able to choose your marque.
Why don't you request some feedback from them?0 -
Just a quicky (as I am laptopless at the moment) and am on a borrowed one for some emergency typing....................out of bad things do come good things.
Fingers crossed for Ford....which, despite me being clueless about the car biz, feels a bit more recession proof than Mercs/Supercars etc.
PS; Top Tip of The Day, don't drink water whilst typing...cos if you spill it all over the keyboard, your laptop dies and has to go + get mended.0 -

Max' previous job was "flogging posher stuff than cars", so transferable skills of salesmanship and schmoozing rich fukk4hs.
In case you hadn't spotted it: there are no jobs out there. The more you've done, the more experienced you are, the less likely you are to find an "exact match" and employers seem to love an "exact match" new employee.
Don't knock him, he's trying.0 -

Flogging cars, to him is "any other job" - but everybody looks at what you've done and if you've not done before exactly what their company does, then they will have another half a dozen people who applied who HAVE done exactly that job.

and Mercs are a quite a step down from what he used to sell (for 2 decades) too. Max is concentrating on sales for time being and, in one blog post, did list the jobs available at the Job Centre. Thinking Avon Rep and Door to door brooms etc. Biggest problem with those is that they were commission only.......you do OK for 1st few weeks, then it slows to very little.0
