Hi dotty. Another poster (I think it was gingerfurball) had a thread the other day about how they had rung up their cc company and asked for a lower interest rate and they got it! I think it went down about 10%. You could try this, especially for your barclaycard which is really high. A great result for just ringing and asking!

I'm thinking of doing this myself - especially with my Barclaycard, before coming on here do you know i never checked the APR??? i wonder how many other ppl fall into that category!!!

    Thanks for your advice

Your electric seems a lot at 120 a month too.

In my flat there is just the 2 of us and we are certainly not on the cheapest provider ( but we are on the greenest!) , we only have lecky storage heaters & condenser boiler, no gas in the whole flat, and we pay about 25-35 a month. Are you turning all the lights off? Making sure that things arnt unnecasily on stand-by? making sure you are only doing full loads of washing? If youve got a tumble drier, reduce usaing that you will see, they use LOADS of electricity!

Hi! Yeas re - the electri - we were on an internet only account (no bills) and they used to take £30 from my account every month, never thought a problem until i received a letter saying was about £350 in arrears!!!! when i rang them they said it was my fault for never checking on-line!!!! I have to pay £120 per month for the next 5 months to clear arrears and also keep my monthly payments up to date!!!

I do switch all lights, pc off etc when not in use, only use drier when raining etc.. Once up to date determined to keep on top of this situation!!

    Thanks

    Hi Dotty,

Thanks for your kind words earlier.

With your situation, I understand why a remortgage is a non starter, but have you approached your current mortgage people?

You could extend the term of your mortgage.
    Maybe reborrow some.
    A payment holiday.

None are long term answers but might give you a breathing space right now.

Ring them and ask, nothing to lose ;)

Hi the mortgage is in hubbys name only and he tends to put everything off, it always seems left to me to sort the mess out however i think i may get him to ring them just to see where we stand - it wont hurt to ask will it??

Thanks for your advice - i wish you all the luck in the world also!!

    Hi Dotty

Can you get your OH involved with your finances this is an awful lot to cope with on your own?

With regards to making savings etc you seem to be doing alot already. Is it only getting through the next few weeks that is the problem or is it alot more serious. Someone worked your figures out that you were about £200 short a month, is this about right or are you getting behind more than this. Are there things not listed do you give the boys pocket money etc. Can you get anything more on ebay I think its 10p listing one day this week. think major cleanout ;)

Your income is quite good, can the business afford to pay your OH this amount every month or are you increasing business debts sometimes to meet this.

Have you thought of contacting payplan or cccs they will give you free advice.

Could you put the mortgage on interest only for a few months just to give yourself some breathing space, this is not obviously a long term solution, but just to get yourselves up to date.

Could you perhaps get another cleaning job, having an extra £100 a week from the 2 jobs would really help. Could you spare any more time

Have you tried a spending diary you might just find you have money going out without realising it that could be cut back its surprising how £2 here and there mounts up.

Has someone mentioned the snowball calculator?

Please don't feel depressed your not alone and things will improve

Apparently its an internet based accoun - i.e they dont send paper bills - told them i wasnt aware of this and thought my £30 was covering the eleccy bill - unfortunatley it wasnt which is why were paying so much for the next 5 months, goes to about £45 per month after this time. :o

    Hi Zippy

You really seem to get me ! OH has a rough idea that we aint millionaires but like i said hes quite happy to leave it to me!! Occasionaly give the boys pocket money but its not too much of a problem - they get some from Grandparents etc so not too much demand on me that way. Can pay his wage ok i think its just mine that fluctuates - at the moment cant really pay myself anything - think the next few months will be hard but im gonna try hard to catch up and then hopefully set up DD to CCs at least to pay minimums then top up as and when with the snowball plan ( i have heard of this!!).

Really planning mroe e-bay etc - i will see how it goes

Trying to keep chin up but i have good and bad days - you know!!??

Thanks ever so much - your advice means a great deal xx :o

    Hi dottyanne,

Not sure about this month unless you can sell some stuff on eBay. But as for next month make sure any money paid for the mortgage (I assume through your husband) is paid in only a couple of days before it is needed, this way at least the mortgage gets paid. I think you really need to contact CCCS or Payplan - there are links at the top of this page. They might be able to help you with the debts.
