You will need to buy an Asda SIM Card. Many networks offer free SIM cards, but I don't think Asda do.
You then phone Orange and ask for a PAC (Port Authorisation Code). They will probably give this to you over the phone.
Then phone Asda and give them the PAC. They will then arrange for your number to be transferred to the Asda SIM Card. The process usually takes about a week.
Bear in mind you will lose any credit that is left on the Orange SIM Card.
The process is very simple - I've done it on quite a few occassions in the past and will be transferring again in the next month.
As an aside, networks that currently have free SIM Cards are: Tesco, O2, T-Mobile. I haven't seen any Vodafone offers for a while.0 -
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

cheers just to confirm everytime I want to change networks I have to get the PAC code?
any idea which is the cheapest network £10.00 wil last me a couple of months.0 -
Yes, you need a new PAC everytime you want to transfer your number. They are valid for 30 days once you have been issued with one. They are very easy to get hold of. They normally ask you a few security questions then give you the number there and then. I was asked some extra questions today as I was told my number is very memorable and there have been a few cases of "number theft" recently.FirstTimer4Me wrote: »cheers just to confirm everytime I want to change networks I have to get the PAC code?
I suppose it depends what you mainly do with your credit. Asda is a flat rate of 8p/min for calls and 4p per text message. Tesco are 20p/min for calls and 10p per text but Tesco give half price to 5 favourite numbers. Tesco also have a promotion where you receive an extra £10 free credit to use within 30 days of topping up £10. Plus you can currently convert £5 worth of Tesco Clubcard vouchers into £10 worth of Tesco credit.FirstTimer4Me wrote: »any idea which is the cheapest network £10.00 wil last me a couple of months.0 -
I am considering an ASDA PAYG SIM card, but have some questions please.
The calls are 8p per minute.
Is there a connection charge?
If I make a 30 seconds call how much will I be charged? In other words, is the billing per second or per minute?
How much does it cost to listen to voicemail? I am with T-mobile at present and voicemail is free.0 -

I'm not clear from your first post if you actually want to port your number to ASDA? If you do, follow the instructions already given.
If you don't you just buy an ASDA PAYG SIM, put in ito your unlocked phone and off you go.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks philnicandamy. To expand on that, ASDA say that the billing is per second after the first minute.0 -
Using a friend's phone, the Vodaphone signal is poor here - either one bar or worse - so what would be the next best cheapest option to ASDA PAYG please?0
