Quiche and egg custards
Basically I put small chopped bits of (usually cooked) stuff into a lined flan dish and pour beaten eggs over them.
Sometimes I'll increase the liquid content with milk and will often add a bit of cornflour, mustard, and paprika to help things along.

What we do is:
Either make your own pastry or we sometimes cheat and buy when reduced to 25p at Asda and freeze, then use when needed. Or make pastry and then you can freeze any excess.
Get a quiche tray and line with the pastry. Put in oven for 7-8mins. In a pan melt a little butter and add anything we usually use up whats in the fridge or cupboard and normally is something like leek or onion, mushrooms, peppers, bacon, ham, sweetocorn, peas.....anything really. Then place these in the quiche tray, then we whisk up 6 eggs to the same amount of milk...add salt and pepper. Put in oven on medium for about 15mins then add some grated cheddar, put back in oven for a further 20mins....voila HM Quiche!!
If I can do it...anyone can!!

Have you saved your previous meal plans? Just thinking that if you had 8 weeks worth for example, you could use ones from before and mix or rotate the weeks around to stave off boredomHonorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Yes, I have got them but they were only scribbled in my notebook - I'm now at the stage where I want to make it more organised and use it together with a recipe book and shopping list. I've already started a recipe ring binder and I've used some ideas from there plus recipes I've successfully cooked myself - I'm about 1/2 way there I think
So far I've got the following menu planner, this is using the ingredients that I have in the cupboard as I don't plan to start my real menu planner until 2nd April as after payday I plan to do a big shop.
Meal Planner until end March
Mon 20th Creamy Pasta with cheese - Was very nice!
Tues HM Fish Cakes and Cauliflower Cheese
Wed Potato Wedges plus chilli from freezer
Thurs Pork stew (extra rice) from freezer
Fri Potato Gratin with bacon
Sat away
Sun Eve - Pasta Bolognese (plus 1/2 to freeze)
Mon Mediterranean Pasta with cheese
Tues Risotto (from freezer)
Wed Corn Beef hash (1/2 to freeze)
Thurs Fish in creamy tomato sauce
Fri Creamy tom & pasta bake
Further meal ideas for April mealplanner
Stand by stew with sausages
Veg & bean stew
Sausage Casserole
Chicken casserole
Mince stew
Honey & Mustard Chicken Pasta
Super Jacket Spuds
Shepherds pie
Toad in the hole
Bangers & Mash
Chinese chicken & noodles
I'll incorperate the above into my monthly menu planner and then add any further bits to my shopping list that I will need, I've already prepared the basic list.
Thanks to everyone that has posted - keep your suggestions coming as my menuplanner is far from finished! We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Forgot to say that I pad out the meals to create enough for my lunch the next day and/or to freeze a portion. I also have lots of pasta meals in my freezer that I use for lunch. We’ve had to remove your signature. Im new to meal planning but to start off with this week I looked my my fridge, freezer and cupboards and wrote a menu listing all of the meals that I could possibly make. Then did a shopping list ( first for me ) and went shopping for the items needed to complete the meals planned. This should actually last 2 weeks :j also there are only 2 of us :j
on the menu is
Quorn Mince with Heinz Mulligatawnay Soup, Yorkshire Puddings and Veg - enough in for 2 meals each
Quorn Chilli Con Carni & rice + garlic bread - enough in for 1 meal each
Spag Bol ( Quorn again ) + garlic bread - enough in for 1 meal each
Made HM bean soup + bread roll - enough for 2 meals each
Made HM veggie soup + bread roll - enough for 2 meals each
Veggie Cheese Burgers & Chips - enough for 2 meals each
Cod with Mr Pataks & veg - enough for 1 meal each
veggie Mince Pies & veg - enough for 2 meals each
Jacket Potatoe Beans & Cheese - enough for 1 meal each
Pizza, Beans and chips - enough for 1 meal each.
Veggie curry & rice + garlic bread - enough for 1 meal each
for lunches my daughter stays at school and I have ryvita with ham, tuna & salad or home made sandwiches with cheese, ham or tuna
puddings consist of yogurts, muller rices, custard, jelly, ice cream, HM flapjack, HM cake
breakfast for me is a banana and porridge with honey - daughters is ricicles
hopefully will now only need to buy milk, bread and fresh veg and fruit once per week to cut down on temptation when shopping.
Im keeping my receipts this month too so that I can really start budgeting properly in future.
By the way we are not veggies but we dont like meat very much:cool: Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -
