Morning all.
As promised my hubby got me a huge shiny silver piggy for christmas.. so the sharps bin has been relegated to bin status again.. good job really as my sons is overflowing.
She is called Blingda (like belinda but *bling*ed!) being shiny and all.
It is my birthday today too so hopefully I'll get some money to put in her.. she contains £76 already from the sharps bin, and some christmas money.
Who else got a piggy/money container for christmas???LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Ok, have examined bank account till blue in the face - can't squeeze any more out this month. So, this month's additional payment is £796.92, leaving a balance of £7199.91 before I match OH's payments.
Had originally hoped to pay-off by Aug 2009. Have decided to set a new target of 31/12/2007. So, that's monthly payments of £599.99:eek: (paid an extra £2.70 to mortgage to get below £600). Which will be fun when the credit card bill comes next month......

I have recalculated this years finances and even after the £3000 I spent in the last 2 months.. mainly on christmas presents and food I have still paid off amost £600 on my debts.. so I am really pleased.. if I canmanage that while paying for other stuff I can certainly manage more over the next few months. I aim to have the £3000 paid off by easter so I can start earlier on next christmas, especially as I have 3 lots of really expensive high school uniform to pay for this year, which I am so looking forward too.. NOT!
I have decided who is to be paid off next and exact dates as to when.. I feel quite motivated still to be debt free ASAP and even though DH still thinks I am loopy, he is supportive in my endeavours to pay everything off.
I have £77 saved over 3 weeks in my mortgage pig and £200 to put back which I stole out of my piggy account for food shopping last week.
My vouchers for next christmas are mounting again with £40 saved already.
Looks like a promising start to the new year financially.. especially if DH gets a halfway decent payrise next month (he got 3p an hour last year!! before tax).. *fingers crossed*LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Fingers are crossed that your dh gets his payrise Pigpen and well done to everyone on this thread.
I am still debating whether to join in or not. I have a pink pig called Mabel for £2 coins and Jean-Paul the Frog for all other change (and notes on occasion). In fact Jean-Paul the Frog is quite full so, as it seems like it's time for emptying and counting up I'm debating whether to use all this change toward overpayments on the mortgage as well as keeping to my other savings vehicles which are either already in place along with those I plan to start as part of the New Year.
I thought that I could also make overpayments with any match betting profits here here and there too online. Mind you, I do have to replace the fridge which packed up on Boxing Day (not good with it full of Christmas food and a house full of children) plus save up for (yet another) bigger car by June.
Sorry for whittling.... just thinking aloud.
Oh, decisions... decisions...

Happy belated birthday pigpen (sorry I missed that) and well done on paying of some debt. Good luck with the moneysaving in the new year.

we don't have a mortgage pig as such, but we have a loose change box (with slots for different coins) which my husband puts all his loose change into when it get's too much to carry around. We have a 6 year old daughter and this is her pocket money fund. Every now and again they sit and count out the money and put it in bags for muggins here to drag to the bank (they hate me in the bank but I don't care). I then take the notes (rounded up by myself to nearest £5) to my daughter's BS Nationwide which has a pass book, which I think is psychologically important to see the money building up. I take about £40-£50 every couple of months and we have been saving since Jan 03, so nearly 4 years.
We view this money as there to be plundered if necessary, but I don't think it ever has. My mum pays her 50p collection which is roughly £3 per month, and I occasionally pay in money I make from Ebay selling stuff she has outgrown.
The total stands at £970 which means she has more easily accessible cash than us! This year for the first time she has bought Xmas pressies for all the family which is 9 of us and spent approx £60 which I will take out of the account and pay myself back.
The cash aspect e.g. the money box sometimes gets plundered for going to the fair, or the school fete or holiday spending money, but it is amazing how it adds up! She loves it and we would never have saved up this much money for her otherwise.
I guess this might not be quite the right forum for this but it is the same principle!0 -
