I got my pig!
She's called Wendy (house) pig, she is beautiful and arrived from ebay stinking of old fags so she's obviously been neglected, she's now on our telly complete with speech bubble and looking happy as a pig in clover (smells a lot nicer too) and is just what we needed.
We have been so good for so long and had run out of enthusiasm (sp?)
She has already got about £30 in her!
You are all so right, saving money can be unrewarding, just thinking no I wont buy that lovely thingy is a bit flat but coming home and putting what you save in Wendy is a real sense of achievement.
I have to say DH is more excited about her than me which is saying something, thanks everyone for all the tips.
Greenstuff and Wendy!Waddle you do eh?0 -

Greenstuff and Wendy!
I agree Greenstuff. Went out for a walk Tuesday lunch & felt a bit sorry for myself - everyone else was in the pub, then came back to work with yummy shop sandwiches...... But then felt the sun on my back, and thought how lovely it will be to feel it all year round when I've paid off the mortgage & retired early :T . While thy're trying to find the capital to pay off their interest only mortgages.....
Just done survey (yougov I think, have done about 10 diff ones tonight!!) & said I would be paying my mortgage off in 5 yrs... have over 11k to pay off to be 50/50 with OH (long story), that will leave 44.3k to go....... if I can get 11k paid off quick 5 yrs is doable as OH will then match what I pay, so an extra spur. ooohhh, will be 50 in 4 yrs 11 months and 13 days  so that seems to be as good a target as any.......
Total of 54.3k works out at £30 a day at the mo, better get cracking......A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Secret_Lady wrote:A great idea.....I may get a "Fritter Pig" as I'm sure I could save more money if I really thought about it rather than fritter it away on non essentials! Not a very flattering name, must try and think of a better one, any ideas? :T
A pig that helps you save up for fritters? Sweetcorn or spam?[size=-2]Remember its nice to be nice and its good to share!

Just paid £50 into mr halifax man this morning!:j (money accumalated from mystery shopping)!
He was a lovely sat boy, who asked dutifully had i had a mortgage review with them recently...i delighted him by saying yes i had and that i am now remortgaging with nationwide as a result ha ha!!:rotfl: (he laughed and said never mind!) and then asked me about the overpayment (apparantly i was the first over the counter one he'd done ( he must be new!) and was staggered to note, the difference it could make to clearing mortgages quicker. Perhaps we need to produce a "mse business card" to give out/a "mortgage pig" one!!(do you think we could earn comission from martin for it??!!)
ps welcome to greenstuff and wendy and her new arrival:beer:Mortgage free 04/03/2025. Thanks to this site and lots of overpayments bit by bit.
Next stop: house repairs, holiday fund, replace our very old cars, more financial security/early retirement savings.🤞0 -
