  • Hello - just - out posts crossed - welcome to daisy!!
  • Just updated the figure of my savings this month and I'm thrilled! My record was just over £900 but that was near the start of the mortgage pig challenge, should definately be in the 70's next month! That will be £10,000 paid off altogether.

Hi halloweenqueen - did my avatar give it away?? When doing my search for e-bayable things I found 2 old programmes from Rocky Horror Show productions from years ago. They went straight in my bookcase though - definitely not for e-bay mortgage pig or no mortgage pig :D
  • No, don't sell them!!!!!!!!
    - I only sell stuff I don't need or want, I still keep all the little nic nacs the kids give me or presents!!
Its amazing what stuff we acquire which seems a must at the time - thats why I really think about what i buy now - don't want to have to ebay it in a couple of years!

Just popped on to say that I lurk on this thread daily and you are all an inspiration:T

I obviously have debt ( ) which I am slowly clearing however I have a joint account with my OH and we keep all the house/bills money seperate. We also have a pigsback mortgage pig who gets emptied every month. This money is all going towards mortgage overpayments. We are both due a payrise in Dec and all this will go towards overpayments.
Every time we take a packed lunch to work we put £2 in the pig it's amazing how quick this adds up.
I am happy with the level that I am clearing my debt and I dont think its fair to penalise my OH thats why we have a mortgage overpayment plan as well.
At the moment it will be cleared in 12 years instead of 25.:T

    keep up the good work

that reminds me of our system... for past 18 months from before we moved in together Mr Pincher and I started a joint savings account where we both need to sign to withdraw money and as a consequence have never withdrawn any of it!

As well as monthly standing orders going in we have lots of little 'initiatives' to build up our savings. For example any winnings go straight in there, profits from ebay, extra earnings etc.

We also started all change under 10p, then it included 20p, now its any change 50p or less. For example if we are out and something costs 49p and we have a 50p coin in purse we cannot use it as it has to be saved to go into the account. So will spend a £1 coin instead = £1.01 in change etc! It's amazing how this builds up especially the 50ps - usually have at least £35 a month just from this one 'initiative'.

One of our more productive ones was a fining system where £1 was fined per annoying habit / swear word - I now look forward to when he does things that I used to find really irritating :rotfl:

It's amazing how it has built up without even noticing the money not being there! Before this Mr Pincher had never saved money in his life - now he loves saving it up and doesn't want to spend it!!
