Hi I have been following all you M.FW's for ages now and I couldn't make overpayments as my mortgage was fixed so any spare money that has come our way I put aside in a savings account and in my mortgage pig. However, the fixed rate has come to an end and I have just put £3000 off our mortgage reducing it by approx 10 months so we are thrilled. You all have been an inspiration to me to keep up with this goal. I hope to be finished earlier than expected and then hope to travel more as kids will be teenagers then. So just wanted to say thanks again to everyone on this board.

Old age isn't bad when you consider the alternative.
  • WAy to go dinkydee - thats a great achievement!
  • What a great idea. How about emptying him every three months and paying
it off your mortgage. Hence less interest charged and reducing the balance even quicker.

I empty my pig every month - even more interest saved!!!!! Takes all my will power not to open it more often, although if i know ive got a lot in there, i sometimes do!!!!!
  • My pig is a bit underfed at the moment as most of the overpayments I'm getting are cheques I receive and go staright in the account. I've been spending next to nothing lately, so no change to put in there!

  • This is such a great idea! I'm going to have to get myself to the local 'pound shop'. They've always got character money boxes in there :)

    Thanks for the idea!
