I thought it was time to give this thread a good dusting off! I read this thread when I joined MSE nearly 3 years ago but had other things on my mind back then. I'm now ready to tackle my mortgage - just started a MFW diary, got my mortgage pig (well she's a cute little sheep still to be named). I'm still looking for a 'pig' though but haven't yet found one in my price range, sheep was 99p new from charity shop but they were out of pigs. Cheapest pig I found was 8.99.
I made my first overpayment yesterday - £11.40, rounded up mortgage payment. The little sheep is ready to be emptied but not sure I can get to the bank today because of all the snow and ice.
Thank you to aliasojo both for starting this thread and for sending me the link!
It would be good if some of you who posted before could give an update on your MF plans.

oooh! i've not seen this thread for aaaggeesss!
My pig is called Tom, as in Tom and Barbara from the Good Life - that's what we're saving to be mortgage free for. And I got the idea from this very thread. He holds all the coppers, and 5ps every day. And the weekly spending money that doesn't get used gets popped in there on a friday night too. Last year he gobbled up over £700!! So well worth it in this house!

this thread isn't the only thing that needs dusting off - poor Mortimer has been very neglected recently. it is very useful when we need change for the swimming pool lockers though - in theory I remember to transfer a the equivalent from the current account to the mortgageweaving through the chaos...0 -
ooh I have a blue and white football with a smiley face on it but I haven't thought of a name for it yet, any suggestions? I've been putting my loose change in it for a while now but haven't really had anything to spend it on in mind. It's now going to be emptied at the end of the year or when I fill it up and I will put it towards the mortgage. Hope to have at least £400 in it.0

Kindness costs nothing0 -
just dusted off poor Mortimer and had a count up - just over £12 there - more than I thought considering he's been on starvation rations! had about £2.50 in 5p pieces - so I'm going to feed Mortimer all the 5p's I get until I've got enough to pay in at the bank (£5)weaving through the chaos...0

my mortgage pig aka £2 tin is still filling up nicely-bout an inch off the top....(supposed to hold £500), taken a long time to fill but will be worth it!Mortgage free 04/03/2025. Thanks to this site and lots of overpayments bit by bit.
Next stop: house repairs, holiday fund, replace our very old cars, more financial security/early retirement savings.🤞0
