I had a peek in Monty the other day and I have over £50 in there. It's ok, but not really set the world on fire for 5 months work!! I fed him £5 yesterday as I cashed in a whole bag of 5p pieces, and I'll plod along. I guess £50 is better than nothing and if Quidco sort our their declined payments fiasco, I'll be able to add treble that to the pot!
£50 is great! Behave yourself!
EVERY single PENNY is an important building block in building those stairs that let you climb from the mortgage pit up to mortgage freedom. You've just moved up a step thanks to that £50. It doesn't matter how long it took to get it, just that you did.
*get me....I'll be wearing a cheerleader's outfit next* :rotfl:Herman - MP for all!0 -

You know what they say.....save the cheerleader, save the world .... (watching series 1 of Heroes right now). I guess in this case, it's save the pennies, save the cheerleader's mortgage!MFW 2019#24 £9474.89/£11000 MFW 2018#24 £23025.41/£15000

Ok, an update on Percival the Moneysaving Pig. he now lives in our hallway and we have decided to turn him into a 'New Car' pig. I am on Mobility allowance and next year have to change our car. When we leased this one it cost us over £1000 which was fine back then because I had my payout from work so used that, however next year finding that sort of money would be beyond us (losing my full time wage impacted badly on us and 3 yrs in, our savings are long gone!!) So, Percival is now our New Car fund and my OH has promised not to break into it next time he needs change for the car park!! Thank you again for such a lovely idea!To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough. If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I will try again tomorrow.0

I am a new MWF (is that right?) I love Herman and will be installing my tardis money box in the new kitchen. We are in the process of buying a house together with an offset mortgage.
I must admit I thought I was switched on but there are things here that I didn't know about moneysaving! Yay for the site and you wonderful people with good tips.
I motivated myself while saving for a horse by tracing one onto paper, keeping it prominent, like Herman, giving each part a 'price tag' - a hoof was £10, tail £12 etc I shaded in each bit that I had saved for leaving the 'best' bits for last. I culd see the progress so I was as keen to keep saving hard at the end as I was at the beginning.
I hope this helps someone. No longer half of Optimisticpair

I haven't read all the posts (there are too many pages
), but I think this is a really good idea!
A little off topic (sorry!) but I have a savings pig too, that I put any loose change from my weekly 'pocket money allowance' - FYI I am 28, and have a mortgage, but just find it easier to budget if I only take out X amount of cash per week - into that.
I've already saved up about £90 this year, by doing this. I recently put £60 into a saving account, where I have an Xmas fund (I have a £10 per mth direct debit which pays into this), so I have cash for all the presents, etc.. I'm going to buy.
But I think for the rest of the year, I might be using my pig to help pay off my mortgage.0 -
.................FYI I am 28, and have a mortgage, but just find it easier to budget if I only take out X amount of cash per week ............
I'm a bit older than you and have always done this. Any overspill gets stashed aside to pay for things like weekends away, tickets to sporting events or gigs, etc. Works a treat for me, I only wish I could get OH to do the same thing!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
