In case anyone's intersted I thought I'd post my mortgage pig rules inspired by everyone else's ideas on the board. We are on a very tight budget and about to lose an extra £300 a month as our mortgage goes up so the idea for us is not to put every penny we'd save in every way into the pig but for some savings to help out our regular accounts a little but we still want to be feeding the pig regularly. We had been saving lose change for some time which I counted last night at £74.85 which I'm dead chuffed about. Any additional rule ideas please let me know!

    Mortgage Pig Rules

    1. All change smaller than £1 goes directly into the pig
    2. All £2 coins go directly into the pig
    3. If there are more than three £1 coins in your wallet, the rest go in the pig
    4. Alcohol free night: £3 goes in the pig
    5. If we don’t pay for a meal out or takeout for seven days £10 goes in the pig
    6. If we eat out but it is paid for by someone else money goes into pig:
    a. Lunch £1 per head
    b. Dinner £2 per head
    7. BOGOF items we would have bought in any case – value of free item goes into pig. Ditto vouchers / price reductions
    8. If we planned to go out (e.g. to cinema) but settle with evening in instead, £5 goes into pig
    9. It is never okay to remove money from the pig unless we intend to replace it within 48 hours

This is a brilliant idea - I will try it as soon as someone can advise me where to buy a cheap pig?!

I decided to make my own pig! With paper maché, an inflatable and an eggbox, Johnny is taking shape! You can use you imagination what i mean about inflatables, but the clue is in his name! ;)

I joined pigsback to earn a curly piggybank... but they have been out of stock for ages! I'm getting to the £10 mark and might have to cash it in for shopping voucher instead!!! Are the curly piggybanks any good and how often do they have them in stock?

    cheers

(I don't actually have a mortgage but am saving for a deposit!!!)

Curly piggybanks are great. We use ours for our loose change with no problems. They're good as you can see inside them and get an idea of how well (or how badly) you are doing! Can't help you as to when they will be back in stock. you may neeb to email pigsback directly to find that out.

If it's any help there are a set of three pigsback piggy banks listed on ebay at the moment, try searching for pigsback and they come up.

Just wanted to say that I am loving having a pig. I put another £200 in him last month and I didn't even notice.

I have decided to add any extra work money I get ie all the over time money goes to the big that way we don't have to cut back to feed him. :o

I am so pleased with myself this is the first year I have been able to save with such ease. I have even put £500 away for christmas :T

I told my friend about my pig and she laughed, I will have the last laugh when I have no mortage to pay.
