ANd talking of sunhats - is there any suncream suitable for under 3 months? Bubba will be max 8 weeks old when we go to Italy and I will need cream but all I can find is not suitable for a baby so young.

    Thanks Sami and Stargirl

I assumed it was some sort of allergic reaction but haven't touched or eaten anything new so was a bit puzzled. Rang NHS Direct who just said to wait for the Doctor to ring tomorrow to see if they want to see me.

If its the same as you had Stargirl at least there is some cream they might be able to give me. The itching is driving me up the wall, I was even contemplating getting some sandpaper to rub it with but nothing seems to help. Have limited myself to rubbing it on the zip of my jeans. If any of my neighbours look into my window they are going to get one hell of a shock, I dread to think what it looks like I'm doing:rotfl:

Hey ladies hope we are well:-)

Well i had my antenatal everything is fine apartfrom the slight water infection which i have antibiotics for now so that should be sorted soon. heard babys heart beat can you believe for the 1st time im 25wks now and boy was it strong no wonder i feel like i have a kick boxer in there.. Rest of the day kinda went to pot work was stressy the had a call from DD saying she felt sick and her friedns mom was picking her up. she was spending the day and night with her friend. The picking up bit rang alarm bells so i called her turned out her and her friend had gone to merryhell to the funfair so we have two 11 yr old girl on there own in a large shopping centre at a travelling fair very safe NOT!!!

Anyways other girls mom has been ticked off by me for being so irresponcible ( she should have at least called me to check if it was ok first) and daughter has been grounded for the rest of the week and no more sleep overs until i feel she can be trusted again grrrrrr.

I'm not sure you will find a sunscreen for such a young baby. The best advice might be to speak to a good pharmacist or your midwife or health visitor after the baby is born. Its like the advice to avoid toiletries at this stage, but more so given all the gunk and chemicals that sunscreens need to contain to make them work!

The normal advice seems to be however that suncream should be avoided on young babies due to the risk of adverse skin reactions, and that the baby should be fully covered up, with a hat and sunshade, and kept out of the direct sun. I'm not sure how hot it will be in Italy when you go, and the kind of pram you plan to buy, but you should be able to get away with having baby in a light cotton sleepsuit with long sleeves and arms, and keeping the sun off by putting the hood of your pushchair up, and using a muslin to cover the gap from hood to apron of the pushchair. If you are taking baby out to feed, etc, then sit in the shade, or indoors, and drape them in a muslin to shield from the sun.

Obviously the most important thing is that baby doesn't get sunburned, so you might need to do a lot of research on this one before you go to make sure you can keep them sun safe.

Skintchick - I haven't seen any suitable for under 3 months - but you can get hats with built in sunscreen factor at Gap and Sainsburys (plus probably a few other places).

Sami - Not sure what the best course of action is. If it's a Graco Quattro, they told me it wouldn't be in until at least 10 June - this after initially saying it'd be in 30 April, which is why we cancelled. Any chance you can speak to your Dad and see if he minds if you cancel? I would think if you kicked up a fuss that they would rebate you the difference in price. Especially if you threatened to take your business elsewhere.

XL you must be raging! Does your daughter know she's in trouble yet?

Harley, try slapping your thigh with your blistered hand rather than scraping it, you should do less damage that way.

Something's clearly wrong. I've been feeling miserable and grumpy for weeks now and decided that the Bellyfrog would be one of a maximum of two siblings. Today I'm leaning towards four. hmmmm.

Yes she knows sugar she went straight to her room when she got back and came up about half an hour later to appologise to me. Strange thing is i was so past shouting at her by the time i picked her up i wanted her to see how upset i was at the way she had put herself in danger she did something similar but not quite so bad a couple of weeks ago i really thought she had learnt her lesson. Anyways all treats are off she is stuck in for half term and no sleep overs for i dont know how long.

Dont do it sugar lol im on number 3 and wondering how the hell i will cope the teenage years after today :-) x

I thought that might be the case. Unfortunately we are not going to take our pram - just a sling, although I cannot take the sun so will not be sitting out in it anyway - I can burn in 20 mins in the UK in about 20 degree heat!

I'd hoped to be able to keep the baby safe from the sun with a hat, and sleeves are a good idea, thanks.

I guess if it's in a sling, then I can cover it round to prevent the sun getting on it, but I will talk to my MW about it as well or the HV after the birth.

We are only going because it's a good friend's wedding - we wouldn;t have planned a holiday so soon after the birth otherwise.

Mostly I will be sat in the shade or indoors as I don't want to risk burning the baby.

My older kids are 22, 20 & 17 - elder 2 live with their OHs, though - so been-there-done-that re teenagers! Why would we start again (all hands up in horror! :rotfl:) folks keep asking! Just always wanted a big family, I suppose, but this bean will be the last, as I'm now 41. Already feel sad at the prospect, but determined to enjoy this toddler & his younger bro/sis! :D
