huge sticky vibes and hugs JHA, hope it goes ok for you.

Thanks Nicki and Tia for the suggestions, I like the sound of the dipstick tests, not sure I would believe that he was taking the medicine.

For once I have good news, My bleeding has completely stopped and it feels great, like a huge weight lifted from me. :T I dont know how long for but it feels like a positive thing.

Love the pics Helen and Tia.

    Hi All

Long time lurker here (on my daughters behalf in this section!). Just after a bit of "non medical" advice, not asking what this could be, more what would you do.

Daughter gave birth last Monday (to the most beautiful little (well big, 9lb, ironic really that she was having growth scans due to the possibility of him being a small baby, and she is TINY) boy:j. Had a bit of bad time really. She was term and was booked for induction on Friday 15th, her due date as she had been on aspirin because of anticardiolipin antibodies. She had 1 lot of gel and was told 4 hours later after examination, that she was 2cm dilated and would not need any more gel and was just waiting to be taken up to delivery to have her waters broke. No beds until Sunday and so she was taken up and hooked up to the monitor ready to have her waters broken. Midwife examined her and apologised profusely but told her she wasn't 2cm dilated, and was barely 1cm so it would be dangerous to break her waters!! She was given more gel and sent back to the ward at 6 pm. Doctor examined her at 10 and said she was now 2cm and could have her waters broken.

Back up to delivery and midwife broke her waters at 11.15 pm. She was put on an Oxytocin drip and managed on gas and air for 4 hours. She then had an epidural. Midwife examined her at 6.00 am and found her to be 8cm dilated. She came back at 7 and told her she could start pushing. She didn't really have the urge to push due to the epidural and so was relying on the monitor to see when her contractions were coming.

By 9.00 am she was no further on (we already knew the baby was back to back). Things went a bit hectic from here on in and in a split second the delivery room was crowded with me, her partner, the head midwife, her own midwife, a paediatrician and the consultant gynae. Aimee was told she would need help getting the baby out as she was not progressing. By this time we were all a little worried and just wanted him out. The consultant decided she would need ventouse and prepared her for this. Shortly afterwards the baby was born and Aimee was stitched up for what seemed like forever.

Sorry this has turned into a birth story, didn't mean for it to!!

Anyhow, to the point of my post!! Her bleeding has been easing off over the week, becoming pinkish. Yesterday she lost 2 large clots and told the midwife. Midwife (who I used to work with and is very experienced) put it down to her doing too much (baby developed jaundice and she was back and forwards to the hospital for blood tests with him since Wednesday).

Tonight however she has been losing more clots, all bigger than a 50p peice and quite thick (sorry if TMI!). This alone would not worry me, BUT she had blood loss of 600ml after delivery, which I believe is classed as PPH and her Hb the day after delivery was only 75. She has been carrying on with her Iron tablets as advised. She has no colour to her at all, more noticable in her hands, she looks like a ghost. She rang me from home when she lost the last clot and I contacted NHS direct for her as she had no credit on her mobile. They rang her back and advised her to monitor it overnight and see the GP tomorrow if necessary. I am really worried about her now. She stayed with me from Tuesday to Friday but is now back home. I have told her to come home tonight if the bleeding gets heavier and we will go to A & E. The problem is that she is very stubborn and tends to play down a lot of her symptoms so I am fearful that she will ignore the bleeding until tomorrow.

Sorry that this has turned into a HUUUGE saga, but after reading this forum for the past 8 months feel as though I know you all. I can't really speak to her dad as he will panic at the thought of anything being wrong with her.

Have any of you any experience of this? I bled heavily after 2 of my 3 children and was given blood transfusions but obviously I was still in hospital.

    Any (non-medical!) advice appreciated.

    Thanks, Carol.

That's a point MM what would you do?

worst case - I live less than 10 min walk from the hospital :eek:

Realisticly, my FIL is usually about through the day, but not always and MIL doesnt drive
My mum is at home on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but babysits my nephew so would not be able to take all of us in the car and Dad cant drive since he had his leg amputated
My sister and sister in law both work about 60 odd miles away
My best friend is in tech which is about 20 mins from my house

Hmmm maybe I shouldnt have started to think about this !!!
Would be an ambulance if I couldnt get anyone quick enough as consultant doesnt want me getting into established labour as I may not be able to stay awake if I am too far gone

    Hi Carol

I dont have any advice, but want to wish you and your daughter well, I hope she is okay, she should really go to the doctors and get checked out as soon as she can in the morning to be safe.

I did pass large blood clots after one of my births, I never sought any medical attention and assumed at the time it was normal.

Now that im alot older, and hopefully a bit wiser, I would say speak to the Dr and maybe convince her of the need to go to hospital if it does get heavier.

cazziej, I am not sure what advise we can give without going into medical !!
She needs to go to the doctors if she is passing clots, but I dont think its completely abnormal. What I would wonder about though is letting her out of hospital with a HB level of 7.5 - she should have had a transfusion at that level should she not???

She actually came home before she got the results (they told her she would have to wait a few more hours for them, but she just wanted to come home by this time).

I rang for them in the evening and they told me the level and asked how she was feeling. She insisted she felt okay (even though I could tell she wasn't, she was so pale). They said if she felt ill she would have to go back in, other than that to see her GP in the morning for medication. I spoke to the GP (I work for him luckily enough) and he advised her to carry on with the Ferrous Sulphate and to go back for a repeat test. Unfortunately, she has then been up and down to the PANDA unit at the hospital with the baby, checking his bilirubin levels and then going back for the results, so she hasn't been for the test. I wasn't so worried at this point as her bleeding was easing off.

I agree about the transfusion. I bled a lot after 2 of my 3 children and had transfusions on both times.

She hasn't rang back so far, so hopefully she has gone to sleep. If the bleeding is the same tomorrow I will insist she comes into the Doctors and sees the nurse.

Thank you both for your responses anyway.

    Best wishes

    Carol
