yes they are "role models" but before this expenses row, how often did you look to MPs are "role models"?

if you claim expenses that you didn't incur expenditure for that's fraud. Just the same as the bloke doing cash in hand work while signing on and that's why the police are now looking into it.

They are role models, they ask us to vote for them and should be able to answer any questions asked of them.

it's not mortgage free - it's only the interest thats paid...

I am not saying they shouldn't look smart but in most professions it's taken as a given! no one else gets to claim to send their ironing out or buy a trouser press so why can they?

depends on the company - i'd reckon companies like BP, BBC, vodafone, all the big manufacturers - all have laundering services available to staff - which im sure cost more than buying a trouser press.

It's public money. The govenment isn't a company.

And you're right doom, they don't behave like role models, and that's wrong. maybe this expenses row has made people more aware of that.

And, this will all die down, labour will be booted out and the tories will be voted in, and so it will go on. Nothing will change, in 12 or so years we'll have the same old arguments, sleeze, MPs doing lots of things they shouldn't be. It's all so deep rooted now, both in the public's minds and in the attitude of parilament, most people are sick of hearing about it.

then we the people need to vote for who is decent. and we need to decide whats better - ones who take loads of expenses but in general have increased the quality of life in the country loads, or go back to millions out of work and living in a class system? (from what i remember)

buffy - i think its more general living expenses since their "normal" job is in their constituency, not in london.

i'd be surprised if any prosecutions are ever brought in this, indeed even shocked if there is a conviction.

although i would expect "the worst offenders" to pay back either the whole or a large proportion of the amount skinned off taxpayers legitimitly and "in error".

but we still voted these guys in and this stuff will have been going on for decades.

That's a perk of working for a private company. I can tell you that rock and roll catering is amazing, the food at festivals is pretty much the reason that most musos tip up. Corporate catering is pants but the gigs are usually much easier and much better paid.

But, just because I get a perk at Glasto, doesn't mean I'm going to expect the same if I did a festival at Burnham on Crouch.

You can't expect the public purse to treat MPs in the same way as if they were the CEO of microsoft.

And then it goes back to if you think nothing can change nothing does.

I don't think I will vote for the main parties anymore. I just think Labour were a total disappointment and the Tories will be more of the same.

It will change eventually. one way or another.

ah but if everyone does that we end up with a bunch of folk who cant manage large scale and we dont get anywhere either :(

our currently political system isnt broke, just some people "play" it differently than others.

our issue is the journalists and their constant sensationalism for this sort of tripe.

when will they report on real pressing issues instead of just finding more and more excuses to ridicule people in office in this country.
