does it work like a parking fine, where if u send a letter of appeal you get another 30 days or so to pay upon their reply?

No. You either pay up or go to court. It's a criminal conviction. If you want to appeal it, you go to court where the evidence will be shown and the court will hear your 'not guilty' plea. Then the court will decide.
If you will the end, you must will the means.

Its not a criminal conviction but a road traffic offence, totally different. If you have to pay it by next week then try your hardest to pay it. You could ring up or pop into the court and pay it by credit card and give yourself more time to pay off the card. Or ask someone else to pay by card for you and pay them back when their statement comes through. If you don't pay the ticket is automatically sent to court.

Generally, if you go to court because you didn't pay, then the fine is increased by 50% although the magistrates can reduce this to the original fine if you plead guilty and explain it was an oversight that you didn't pay etc etc. It's a conditional ticket hence not paying means court.

You have a fine that needs paying so you need to decide whats more important, your car or your job(do you drive to work,) is there not a phone number on the letter you got(i take it you do get a letter) that you could call and say look i can only pay X amount or you ask a friend nicely if you can borrow the money and promise to pay tehm back and buy them a few pints

I agree with the others unfortunately you need to pay it as they seem to be very unsympathetic with these fines and if it goes over the time it will only get worse.

As above do you have a credit card, overdraft or a friend who might lend you the money, or can you cut back on anything this month.

I didn't think people would flame so much on this forum. =/

Has anyone else got any more ideas?

Nobody is flaming anyone, pay the fine or face the consequences, there is no other answer I'm afraid.

If you are prosecuted by the Police, it is a criminal matter (as opposed to a civil matter). There are only two broad elements in English law.

Of course they're unsypathetic - you've (OP) broken the law. The police are there to enforce it.

Yes, but the OP isn't disagreeing with the fine, or saying they won't pay it, just asking if they can have a little bit of extra time to get the money together???

OP, exactly how much extra time do you need??? When did they send the penalty notice to you and when does it need to be paid by??
