Scamming EMA!

  • I can completely sympathise with this, so many people at my college don't have jobs to earn money, instead they play the system to get the free money, while the rest of us honest hard-working people have to work to earn the same amount as that others are technically stealing. It is so irritating.

Child benefit is continued after 16.
  • I think no-one should make a point of stressing that they had to turn up to all their lessons to recieve the money. The point of going to college (which is optional) is to go to the lessons to further your education, so you should turn up to all the lessons anyway. EMA should be given to every one in some form, or more stringent conditions should apply, it seems that the government is happy to throw this money away to people who often don't need it ( i know alot of people do benefit from it though).

    Who's EMA?
    Happy chappy
  • EMA is Education Maintenance Allowance. College students recieve up to £30 a week just for going to college. It depends on their parents income, and alot of people are un-happy about the way people are abusing the system and claiming this money fraudulently.

    Using what money, exactly?
  • it seems like it is given to more than half of the student population at the moment anyway, so.. perhaps if they gave less out, and stopped giving £100 bonus just for sheer attendance of lessons then perhaps there would be enough money to give some to everyone. Personally I think that £30 a week is a rather large sum of money to be reciving for free.

The bonuses aren't given just because of attendance. I had to turn up to all exams and make sure that I'd done all the coursework that was set. (and hand it in on time)
  • Students who want to pass and do well in their courses also have to do that and they Dont have a monetary incentive. I attended all classes, all exams and handed course work by the deadline set, with no extensions. Where's my reward?

If you got the grades you wanted then you have your reward.
