Scamming EMA!

This is only a suggestion: do you make sure that your tutor has a note from you BEFORE registration, or rely on them remembering that you've said you'll be somewhere else? Could you suggest a post-it note on the cover? It may be that without a note from you they can't do anything other than mark you absent: I know there's a limit to what can be done with registers these days, none of this filling it in in pencil and going over it in ink later ...
It depends on why I'm not there. My tutor's quite relaxed about these things so normally I don't have a problem and I can just get someone else to tell him I am in school and I'll be marked in. I just found it bizarre that for most of the year I had to miss one week's morning registration for a piano lesson (my tutor knew about this) but the one time the EMA people notice I'm apparently not in is because I'm at an exam (my tutor was away this day and so someone else registered the class, but I was registered for the exam so I don't see why they can't cross-check).
It's nice of you to make these assumptions, isn't it? I can explain all I want but people will probably keep making comments. Never mind, I can't do much about it now.Kind of suggests you don't need the money?
I can say for a fact, my dd would not 'forget' about money she was owed! And neither would I!0 -

No explanation needed as far as I am concerned. We all have things happen during our courses, some of us more than our fair share, but I can assure you I could not afford to 'forget' about a sum of money.0 -
Yes, and my point is that in some cases you can hand that note in BEFORE registration rather than afterwards, and this will help your tutor (who is only human and with a finite mind and memory to cater for a number of students!) no end.Good point S_S!! This drives me mad when you've 20 odd students at the start of the day trying to tell you something, if you are missing registration you should have an official note from parents etc, for EMA purposes.
Obviously if you're ill you can't give in a note beforehand, but if you're helping out elsewhere, visiting a university, or on a day course somewhere else, then it CAN be done.
If you do that, THEN you can have a little rant about how your tutor should have know you weren't going to be there. But only a little one, mind.

I just don't understand why you have to keep on with the "forgetting" about a sum of money. I regret having posted anything about it now, this is just silly. No explanation needed as far as I am concerned. Hehe, good advice and I do hand in notes beforehand whenever possible. It's not my tutor's fault at all anyway, it was the EMA people I was having a bit of a go at. The letter I got saying I wouldn't be paid for one week was apparently from the very person who registered me for the exam, and she was completely bewildered when I showed her the letter so I don't think she ever knew it was sent out in the first place. She signed it off for me though so that was good.0 -

Quite! I found it odd you were using this example to criticise your college in the first place.
You basically moaned that they chase up money owed to them but don't tell you to go and get money they owe you.
The difference is very clear imo!
They take responsibility for the money owed to them and you take responsibility for the money owed to you. I doubt many students would go out of their way to tell the college they owed them money if they thought it would be forgotten.
That's life, I'm afraid - everyone is happy to tell you what you owe them!0 -
I'm having an absolute mare trying to get hold of the EMA to check what has happened to my son's application. Longest I've managed to stay in the queue is about 20 mins and every single call Ive made has ultimately been disconnected. Does anyone know of an alternative way to contact them? email or different phone number? ( I'm using 0800 121 8989 ) I'm pulling my hair out!0

I don't know how long ago you applied for ema scat but last year i only just received my pack just before I started at 6th form and I applied in July!!!!!!! I think you just have to be patient as I expect they're really busy.
I've looked on the website but can't seem to see any alternative ways of contacting them. I think you'll just have to keep trying, at least the phone numbers free!!I Shop Therefore I Am0 -

The phone number would be free if I was on BT! My provider charges for 0800 numbers..
Can't remember when exactly we posted the forms back but has to be at least a month ago now.0 -

My dd had a 'we have received your application dah de dah' letter within days of posting hers off and she received a decision in around 3-4 weeks if I remember rightly - it was no longer than that anyway, but may have been a bit less.
She applied in June.0 -

Scat - From previous posts Savvy seems to work in a college admin office. S/he might have an alternative number or where to complain to0
