Some people on here have left it a few days and it's worked ok for them. However, I don't know if it's worked for everyone.
Try reading through the various threads (on about two or three different MSE boards unfortunately) about this and see how other people have got on. I was really lucky and got an offer straight off when I called through. Others have had to cancel and get their partners to apply for a "new" account. Good luck. These offers should be open to long-standing customers too!!Big thanks to Martin Lewis for helping us start to sort out our finances!!!:A
Best Comp win:X-Box 360!!
And thank you to all posters! You're wonderful!0 -
Spiritus, we don't live in a Virgin area either, but still got the offer. It's literally a case of which day you ring and who you speak to. Martin's article says they have so many offers to give out each week, so it's a case of striking lucky.
Bangerchick - if you don't mind being without Sky for a little while, your husband could cancel and then you could apply in your name. As you'd be a new customer, you're more likely to get a better deal.
But do Sky not record notes of the call ? Do they not write "Mr Smith has just phoned up wanting to cancel" etc ?
If they do then every subsequent time I ring up to try and "cancel" I will lose credibility. No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
Thanks to the OP, I just got free installation of sky+. They say it usually £159 to upgrade and they are coming out on Bank Holiday Monday, what a shocker.
No mention of reducing cost per month, but hey ho.
The lady on the phone was very polite and I guessing heard it all before.
Sky+ is coming, fantastic :j0 -
I'd just like to say to anyone that thinks they are getting a deal on the free sky+ box but have to pay £30 installation they are not as I am looking to upgrading from standard sky box to sky+ box and signed in to sky this morning (as I have my email/broadband with sky) and looked at upgrading and it told me I can get a free sky+ box but need to pay £30 today. So obviously the operator just wants you t othink that you have recieved this deal as they are desperate to keep you when in fact they are offering the box for free anyway!!0

I know, i had them ring me up as my year with them is up and tried to get me to insure my normal sky box as they said i have to pay now if it goes wrong. is this right?
I will be doing as op suggested soon.0 -

no they dont take notes the amount of times Ive phoned about a problem and asked to put a note on the computer or been told the have put a note on the computer then been told the next time that there is nothing there. All the operators are interested in is keeping you as a customer and if they can offer you a 'deal of the century' then they get more money in their wage pack remember they also work on commission as well!0 -

Likewise, can't find anything about a free Sky+ box - only says £49 plus installation fee and this is more than £30. Where are you looking Burnsey?"A" is for Opple if yowm spaking loike a yamyam!0

Your story sounds very similar to mine
The guy I spoke to in the Cancellations Dept was very obnoxious and condescending with me. When I asked to be put through to his manager he virtually interrogated me as to why I would want to speak to his manager about !
I also don't have Virgin cable in my area and I wonder if Sky are aware of this and play their cards differently in such situations.
Sounds like my wife got through to the same guy. She said that we were hoping to get a better deal as we had seen Virgin and BT home hub at cheaper prices. We have been with Sky for over 10 years and at points had full package, we now have all but movies and sky sports but still a 10 year old box which plays up.
The operator she spoke to was rude to her and said asked if her husband knew she was cancelling! In the end offered a 20 hrs sky plus box but would have to pay full installation cost and no chance of any discount on bills to offset this. He then basically said take it or leave it and when she asked if he could do any better he said no and that he would process cancellation.
Seems silly that Sky will lose a customer for the cost of an installtion. Anyway, in 30 days we`ll be saving some money.0 -
Yesterday I was offered a free reconditioned Sky+ box fitted free, or a new one for £49 or 20% off any packages. I intended cancelling anyway as we are out and about over the summer, and don't really want to be paying for what we don't use, I said I did not think that was a good offer as I could get Sky+ HD for £49 (but I would have to pay a further £9.50 a month HD Subscription), no movement so cancelled. It would have had to be a very good offer to get me to stay.
