Present for nurses

My daughter has been very ill in hospital and the care she has received has been fantastic. She was in a high dependency unit and everyone - doctors, nurses, cleaners - all of them were so kind and caring to both of us.

I really feel I want to give them something but remember one of my nursing friends saying how fed up they get with chocolates. But what else can you give them?

If it's high dependency I wouldn't think you could do flowers or plants so that's out.

When I was in hospital someone bought me in some Egg Custard Tarts, after my operation I was starving and had missed lunch so ate one. Well, thanks to the General Anaesathetic it didn't stay down too long so I gave the rest to the nurses.

Why not bake them a cake?

hi, on the ward where my friend works, they have a fund which any money patients give goes into and it goes towards a nurses night out.....
or some bottles of wine.. that always goes down well with nurses...lol
    just a thought,
hope your little one is on the mend.
    cheers

I would opt for sweets of some sort... my neighbours are nurses and the rules are pretty strict on what they can and can't accept :( One patient (quite well off I hasten to add!) bought all the staff a weekend away but due to NHS rules they couldn't accept them :(
Any token of appreciation however WILL be well recieved - it's honestly the thought that counts and just the fact you have put some thought into buying them cakes etc would be much appreciated. Why not buy some cakes or cream cakes - a large selection of various sweet things :)
And maybe a card from your little one to say thanks? :)

I'm a nurse. We love a hand-written card expressing thanks for the care given cos it makes us feel valued. Failing that.......cake!! :D

I'm glad your daughter got good care. I think any gift is appreciated - it really is the thought that counts. At least cake or chocolates can be shared by all.

*wanders off wondering how anyone could get fed up with chocolates...*

im an nurse too and i would say cake, if you wanted to make a donation the nurseing staff wouldnt see it as its supposed to go into the hopital pot. We've had quite a few gift donations that we can use, weve had a coffee machine, a funky dinner set and one patient asked how many nusres worked on the ward and got us all a £5 boots voucher!! HTH

Fed up of chocolates? but, but without chocolates and biscuits we wouldn't get through a shift (especially the busy ones where you don't have time for a break but survive on a handful of quality street

Cake is also appreciated, wouldn't go so much with the wine (unless it's for an individual nurse) as you can't split it and ends up with those on shift doing a mini raffle.

Actually what about a big pot of sweets rather than chocolate, than won't melt and will still give a sugar rush when you need it

I'd also say a nice cake or luxury biscuits.... or the vouchers thing sounds like an excellent idea...
