Present for nurses

Give some of them hearing aids so that they can notice when patients need attention instead of muttering.."in a minute" then going to hide in the nurses office with a cup of tea and a purloined box of Milk Tray.0

When my grandparents were in hospital my mum bought travel sized versions of nice bath goodies, shampoo, body lotion, hairspray etc & made up a hamper along with some individually wrapped hot chocolate sachets, fruit teas, coffees & a tin of biscuits. She just wanted to do something a little special as they did a fantastic job.
One of my friends told me a patient bought them a nespresso machine!0 -

I always take in big tins of chocs or other sweets - I am wondering if I am the only person who also takes a gift for the theatre staff as well?
My Dad was an ODA until he retired and he told me that if I was ever operated upon then I should also provide a gift for the theatre staff - I get them nice biscuits so that they can eat them in their staff room. They're always surprised when I ring the bell and someone has to come out and I give them the gift.
So true, I worked in a recovery unit and we hardly ever got stuff from patients in the theatre department. One ward sister used to bring us tins down.0 -
I presume you've never been on an older persons ward then...
I'm not saying it doesn't happen - hey who doesn't skive at work? I'm doing it right now! Let he who is without sin..
It's not my experience. My father was very ill for a long time before he died and he got exemplary care from all three hospitals he was in. Other elderly relatives have been treated very well.
My daughter is now in a general ward - same number of nurses, four times the number of patients. Not detracting from the excellent work in the more specialist units, but these nurses must have a difficult time. Some of the patients are difficult - the visitors are worse. And the number of people I've overheard complain about the "handwashing nonsense"!
I've experienced nothing but professionalism throughout. You're doing a great job :T:T
And can I thank people who have reminded me not to forget the other staff - that's a tin of biscuits for the A&E dept too..0 -
Please do also make sure you send an email or letter to the Chief Exec.
They hear all the complaints etc, but no one ever lets them know about the positive comments too - email the PALS team about the good stuff and ask them to pass it to the powers that be upstairs."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0
