Yes it does help thanks - and my purchase won't break the bank either.
Edited to add : it's not the amount that bothered me - just that I could see no explanation for a seller having a slightly incorrect email address registered.0 -
I've had an email from the seller saying Paypal recommended cancelling the failed payment, then sending me a new invoice. But I have now received an Ebay message saying the seller requests that we cancel the transaction. All very odd.0

Perhaps your seller thinks they are cancelling the errant payment somehow? Ask them what they're up to.0

Hmm, so seller is now trying to reclaim their FVFs, curiouser and curiouser.

I haven't agreed, but emailed the seller again to ask whether the 'cancel this transaction' message was a mistake. I have cancelled the errant (great word!) payment.0

The exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago (as the seller).
Again when listing the item ebay asks you to type your paypal email address. The first batch of listings I did correctly, the last few I typed .com instead of .co.uk. A minor mistake but I was unaware until the end of auction and buyers had sent money. Unfortunately once payment is 'sent' ebay don't let you send a new invoice so I had to email my buyers. Payments all bounced back because of the invalid email address. Luckily they were all very understanding. As long as you are only paying once and receiving messages through ebay (not just a private address) then it could well be genuine.
I know in my case it was no con, just an honest mistake.0 -
I sold something last week and had accidentally used my old email address as the Paypal payment address on the listing.
It's the same Paypal account - but now has a new email attached - so the payment wouldn't go through.
I asked Paypal what to do and they advised sending the same message to the buyer asking them to cancel the initial payment and resend to the new address.
I felt like a flippin' idiot so I knocked off most of the postage charge for inconveniencing them.
It is really easily done - I've not sold anything for a few months and my selling account was automatically set to my old Paypal address. I'd manually changed it on all my other listings but missed this one.
Sounds like it is an honest mistake from your seller - and you won't lose any money as the original payment won't have been claimed so won't have left your account

The payment leaves the buyers account as soon as he pays, however it remains in limbo until either the seller claims it or th ebuyer recalls it.
Yes anyone can make an honest mistake, we've all done it, but why now try to reclaim their seller FVFs?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Sorry, I didn't realise - I was just repeating what Paypal had told me.
They said that if my buyer checked their account, no money would have left because it hadn't been claimed
Either way, my buyer was perfectly okay about it, luckily for me. Living with Lupus is like juggling with butterflies0 -
The seller got back to me - the 'cancel this transaction' message was a mistake (she says by Paypal), so I gave her the benefit of the doubt.
But I now have 2 failed payment transactions, each with a 7 to 9 day temporary hold, plus 2 new identical invoices. It's bizarre. She is not a novice, has 100% feedback, and has sold regularly.
Sadly, I do want the item, but am running out of steam.
I have emailed her again to say I'm not prepared to continue the process of failed payments indefinitely.
What will happen if I just ignore the 2 new invoices?0
