:hello: Hello everybody,
Raining here too. My boys are supposed to be going to a BBQ this evening, can't see it happening somehow.
I've made some treats for them to take just in case (we'll scoff them if the BBQ is off). I made these except with dried apricots instead of exotic fruit and I put the mixture in tray bake tins rather than cake cases. I can thoroughly recommend it if you want a quick and easy peasy semi-healthy treat for your kids (or you)-the mixture makes 16 pieces in a traybake tin and I worked the cals out at 185 a piece, I shall save some of my calorie allowance for one later:D
Yes, very boring I know:rolleyes: but I'm calorie counting. It's a bit of a faff but quite empowering knowing I can eat anything I like so long as I keep to my allowance. I'm actually quite enjoying making a project of it. I'm logging my food on an online cal counter site (free) and working out how many cals are in the things I bake for the kids so I can work them into my plan too. I lost 6 lbs in my first week:j
Breakfast for the kids was leftover roast belly pork which I sliced very thinly and fried up with some leftover spuds. Dd turned up her nose at this and had toast.
Lunch boxes are cheese and ham sandwiches, chocolate muffins and apples. I'm having smoked mackerel salad.
Supper will be a freezer ready-meal ie leftover 3 bean chilli plus rice/Ebly0 -
Morning all :hello:
Stuck in the office today doing OH's accounts. So a very happy anniversary to me. Thanks for all the good wishes. :A
We are going out this evening to my all time favourite restaurant which is very hard to get a table for so I am impressed that he organised a baby sitter and booked a table all by himself. If I have what I think I'm going to have I will make all you seafood lovers jealous with a description tommorrow.
Essex girl I am shocked at your suggestion. Doing his accounts for him is quite enough without a present a la Hester as well. It's not like it's our silver anniversary or any thing. :rotfl:
Very little in the way of OS today. Though I have brought leftover salad for lunch and some of my muffins.
A little bit of laundry this afternoon after I have taken Dtwin2 to an appt at 2.30 and walk the doggie before we go out.

Afternoon all.
Happy anniversary Mr & Mrs H-J.
Tru sorry to hear about Pink Chookie. How very upsetting.
Marie how's little Thunder-Kittie's poorly paw?
Well, absolutely nothing is getting done today. I still feel thoroughly unwell, and we have a busy weekend, so I'm just going to rest up and hope to be up to doing all the stuff we have to do - a visit to the Concrete Cow brewery tomorrow with the local CAMRA branch, a visit to Woburn farmers market on Sunday morning, and the Earthlore moot (pagan thing) Sunday evening. Plus of course, all the normal weekend jobs we always have to do.
I shall utilise my time by tidying up some of the files on my computer - at least I can do that from the sofa.
We've had an email from Mr LW's friend asking us to look after Molly Dog again in August, so that's something to look forward to. I think I'd better practise my ball-throwing technique!
((((HUGS)))) to all who want/need one today. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Good Afternoon Chums,
been a busy week here , my youngest DD started her new full time job and I have been doing the morning school run with the three youngest boys. They have been very good lads, and no trouble at all. The eldest DGD has found a part-time job locally to help out with buying bits for her college course in Sepember and also the youngest DGD as well.So thats three in the family with extra dosh coming in.
I have been flitting around helping where I can, but last night started a rotten cold .My nose is running like the Thames at the moment
Good news from my Uni course though, all three essays have come back marked and my first year at Uni is o.k. as I have passed with 80%, so I'm feeling quite proud of myself at the moment.
No shopping to get for a few days though as I did a big shop on Tuesday. Tomorrow I have to take the youngest DGS to his friends party and again he has another on Sunday .He has a better social life than I have and he's not yet five.Well time to get a move on and attack the iron mountain that is sitting in my kitchen.
Had a sad email from an old friend in Adelaide, his son passed away yesterday in the Hospice there, bless him he did fight so hard as he had only been given three months over a year ago. His parents as you can imagine are devastated,Its a filthy disease cancer.
R.I.P.Paul
Take care all
JackieO xx
P.P.S. Does anyone know where I can buy Heinz tomato ketchup with a twist of garlic in it Tesco's used to sell it but don't anymore and Sainsburys never have Its delicious and if I can find it I would but a case of it0 -
JackieO Sorry to read about the loss of your friends son. It is a horrible disease. Prayers for the family.
Well done on your uni results :T :T0 -
Not sure if this is OS but I need to buy a sewing machine!
Was thinking about posting on the I Wanna or Shabby Chic board but not sure what to go for??
I have been recommended a Brother brand but I thought Singer was the best??
I have only sewn by hand recently and the last time I used a machine was quite a while ago.
I need it for doing curtains, cushion covers etc.
Any input gratefully received!Spreading the gospel that is Martin Lewis to the future generation....I'm a Home Economics Teacher and being thrifty is the way!:A0 -
HockeyDuo There are loads of different sewing machines out there but for what you want to make I'd be looking at a basic one. Something that sews straight lines, buttonholes and zig zags is fine. I've had mine for about 7 years and got it for £50 in Netto. I've made various clothes, curtains, cushions, aprons etc with it. You'll be running curtains up in no time0

Thanks I think basic is the way to go. Those computer ones are a little crazySeen some that come with a 'starter kit' i.e. packs of thread, scissors, case etc for udner £100 here. Is this reasonable?
