A really quick cheap meal i do is veg and noodles. Alli do is put a few handfuls of mixed frozen veg in a pan and boil with a veg stock cube, add the noodles and thats it but my kids love it!
I also make cheesy mash with beans underneath and grill the top, or fry the cheesy mash with beans on the side, then if you want sausages or pork chops with it you can.grocery challenge jan 17 £ / 350.000 -
Today for dinner I had:
Half a tin of Sainsburys basics vegetable soup.
Mug full of peas (basics again).
Chopped carrot from the garden.
125ml of gravy (basic granules)
Mix all together, yum.
For afters:
An apple from my store, peeled, cored, stewed. (not a cooker, but eaters work ok)
Half a packet of Sainsburys basics custard on top.
Total cost about 25p0 -
PEA SOUP
This has got to be the simplest and cheapest recipe for the most wholesome and filling end result – ever. My box of dried peas cost 36p, so each serving cost just 9p!
Serves 2
INGREDIENTS
125g (½ a 250g box) of dried peas
500ml of water
Ground black pepper to taste
METHOD
Soak the peas in water according to the instructions.
Put the peas into a saucepan and cover with fresh water. Bring to the boil, then turn down the heat until it is just boiling (simmering). Check the liquid level from time to time and top up if it starts to dry out.
Continue cooking the peas until they are the desired consistency. Adjust the quantity of the liquid to the required quantity of soup.
If you have a food processor, put the soup in it and blend it to the desired consistency. If you have a hand blender, put it in the soup and blend it to the desired consistency. If you don’t have a food processor or hand blender, press the soup through a sieve with the back of a spoon.
Season with the pepper. Continue to cook for another couple of minutes.
ADDITIONS & ALTERNATIVES
You can use fresh, frozen or tinned peas. These do not need to be soaked.
Pea soup can be any consistency from a thin liquid with soft peas floating in it to a thick paste you can stand a spoon up in.

I used to make this years ago with an added red pepper and some sauted onion. Thanks for reminding me - I will snaffle a campbells tomorrow. LOL
Tinned soups make really good sauces for the SC. American's use a lot of tinned soup based SC recipes. I use oxtail a lot as a beef gravy based sauce for sausage casserole or brisket. hhmmm delish.
I LIKE TO DO A SIMILAR VERSION TO THIS, USING HEINZ TOMATOE SOUP, PASTA, TUNA AND CHEESE. ALWAYS LIKE TO MAKE A BIT EXTRA AND DOES ME FOR LUNCH THE NEXT DAY. ALL IN ALL ABOUT £2

My cheapest meal is tomato pasta.
Fry an onion, add a tin of tomatoes, tomato puree, ginger, garlic, and/or any herbs you like. Leave to cook for a little while and serve over pasta.
For variation add mushrooms, peppers, peas, goats cheese etc.0 -
