Im worried i may be being set up for a scam

I had a question on an item I was selling where the person asked whether I would accept cash posted to me. I replied stating this was unsafe and suggested he send me a postal order if he won. I did not hear back but the same person has now won the item. He has just sent me a question asking for my address so he can send me cash in the post via recorded delivery as he says he does not want to pay the extra postal order charges.
It all just seems very strange that someone would be prepared to lose cash in the post just to save a small fee. I worried he may send a blank envelope and when I sign as sending recorded he will have proof the letter arrived and try to claim I must have received payment??
Am I being paranoid and should I insist he sends postal order?
Thank you I have a bad feeling about this buyer
p.s The item is less than £40

I'd insist on another payment method too, also not sure that cash is covered under rec del so its not safe for him either if genuine.0

Ask for one of the methods that you requested0

I wouldn't do it, if I was the buyer I'd be more worried you would deny all knowledge of receiving the money. Paypal every time, unless it's collection.0

Cash is not covered under recorded delivery so he'd be wasting his money sending it special.
I agree, tell them to pay in a manner that you have offered, if they don't bother open a NPB.2 angels in heaven :A0 -
How could he scam you though with cash ? Worst could happen is you get a NPS and a neg ?0

How on earth is it a scam?Terms & Conditions Apply0

Either you get the money or you don't. It doesn't matter if he can prove something was delivered to you - there's no evidence of what is or isn't inside the envelope. A buyer can't prove payment to ebay unless it's via paypal. My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
It's not a scam, but he's very foolish for wanting to send cash through the post. Postmen can smell cash, or at least they have some other method for detecting it. Very unsafe thing to do unless you want to make a donation to the postmans ball.0

I was just being perhaps paranoid that he could file a non receipt dispute stating that he has proof that the letter was delivered and that the letter contained the payment???0
