In 8 years as an estate agent you never once told a white lie? You never told someone who was undecided on buying a property that someone else was also putting an offer in when really there wasnt?
I sell cars for a living and i often tell people who test drive my cars the old chesnut "i have a couple of people very interested". It doesnt do any harm at the end of the day, im not ripping anyone off, just doing my job and giving them the extra push that maybe needed, nothing malicious.0 -

After that confession from yourself, I'll buy properties from you anyday!! Especially if you wear that outfit during the viewings!!
Its just like in normal everyday consumer life, if you have a good experience with someone, you recommend them and use them again and again. If you have a bad experience, you'll never use them again and also you'll tell everyone out there that they are !!!!!!!!! Thats why forums like these are very important for sharing views and experiences.
Honest EAs will continually have good customers but bad EAs will never get repeat business!!! Then again its not everyday someone buys a house, but you get the point hopefully
Debt at highest (November 2005) = £35,856
Debt currently (August 2006) = £20,790
&More £1,530, Egg £6,800, HSBC £3,760, Egg Loan £8,700
Interim goal = £23,400 (Target: February 2006, Missed but acheived May 2006)
2nd Interim Goal = £15,000, Target October 2006
Debt Free Date = February 2008 BUT I'M GOING TO BE TRYING FOR SOONER!!!

Burbs,
No I didnt.. not once.. and you know why.. because I knew of too many agents that did.. Now then cars sales.. dont get me started..
At least your honest.. difference is, that I was never on commission, and I liked my vendors, and i expecially liked my buyers, because of the trust they gave me, and thats why I didnt want or need to lie...

burbs wrote:If im honest i dont think Barry did anything absolutly out of order. What he did was a bit underhand and he shouldnt have done it but at the end of the day he is in a business where he has to try and keep his bosses happy in a very competitive business. If what they showed was the worst he had done then im sure there are other agents they should concentrate on.
Sorry Burbs, still reading the thread, and this caught me eye.. Barry didnt do anything absolutely out of order.. .. just a bit underhand.... all I have to say to that is.. er unprintable... Now then back to care salesman...

Im not on commission, i own my own company so my staff have to sell cars.
I will not accept lying to my customers except for the usual harmless
"we have people interested" It just pushes the person to buy the car quicker (hopefully) and therefore enables them to get on with the pleasure of owning the car that little bit quicker, thats the way i see it anyway!
If any of my staff were telling blatant lies to a customer then they would be straight out of the door.
As for you not telling people that there were other offers etc, did you ever sell a house? LOL
You are welcome to start on car salesmen, they are not bad!!0 -
No offence intended mandi (I'm probably included in this) but that's the exact reason many people don't get rich...
I have great admiration for Martin as he manages to profit from helping others. Top Bloke, he deserves every penny

Keep them coming!
What did he actually do that was so downright out of order? As i said he was a bit devious but if that was really the worst he did then surely they could have found someone better to expose.
He tried to get sellers to lower their asking prices, so what? If you dont want to lower them when Barry asks you, say no! Its not rocket science.
He phoned people with low offers, so what? Dont want to accept a lower offer then again just say no!! People are going to try and take advantage, its a fact of life, dont let them.0
