  • Thanks setmefree2 - your posts are always very supportive and encouraging.

I've submitted 4 applications already and handed in my notice. All the jobs I've applied for are much closer to our house so I keep convincing myself that in the long run I'll/we'll be better off since travelling will be less/cheaper (certainly less than the current £330 per month on train fares!) and I'll have time in the evenings for active MSEing (ebay mountain is well mountainous).
    MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.
  • Did I mention we're selling at a car boot sale this coming Sunday? Weather permitting!

I think I'll get the resignation wrapped up then start pushing on the NI and tax front. Didn't know you could call HMRC... or that they'd divulge that kind of information! I've tried the financial advisor/mortgage need evidence of pay but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
If they have been deducting from the salary then they should have been making payment on your behalf; you don't want to get caught later because insufficient NI has been paid, or indeed tax. Don't feel guilty, remember at the end of the day you have to look after number 1.

Best wishes with the job hunt.

    Hi MRN,

Good Luck with the Jo Search. I am sure you would get a better one very soon

  • We made £125.62 profit (entrance cost and petrol cost subtracted) at the car boot sale  - we're both actually quite surprised as we started the day saying if we just manage to break even and sell the sodding bubble tube for a more comfortable journey home, we'll be pleased! Even better I packed enough bananas and sandwiches, three choices of hot and cold drink so that we didn't need to spend any money at the refreshment trailer. We also didn't get chance to browse other stalls and weren't tempted either.

Did a mystery shop on the journey home which made us another £3 (after expenses and tax deductions) and more importantly meant that we tired out sellers didn't have to cook for ourselves tonight.

Just realised I've accounted for petrol twice but didn't need to as the MS was on the journey home from the car boot! Never mind.

Inspired by Little Mr T's frequent updates of 'other' earnings and further inspired by GallyGirl's :) vs :( approach to posting MSE news, I've had a look at all the odds and ends of online surveys/cashback sites and such like to see what I can draw on. Here's what I've found:

    :)Valued Opinions [STRIKE]£11.95 [/STRIKE]- [STRIKE]thinking about getting £10 Tesco voucher [/STRIKE]- DONE £1.95
:)Toluna 71,475 points - could use 60,000 to get £12 voucher but will probably wait till the 120,000 point and get double that.
:)Consumer Pulse 19850 (£19.85) - will take a week to get to £20 then will get Next voucher to add to engagement present vouchers we're saving for when we redecorate the bedrooms.
    :(ipoints 1248 - minimum treat is 2000
:(GlobalTestMarket 650 points - 1000 required for redemption
:(Quidco 40p - they've just taken the annual £5 off
:oRPoints 2 points - I haven't done any daily clicks for over a year!!!
:mad:Ciao £15 but actually £0 - they took my money due to inactivity.
:)Paypal £10.53 - will leave there for now, got a mountain of ebaying to do during unemployment so should easily reach the minimum for free transfer to bank account
:(Amazon £0 - don't remember using the last of my competition win vouchers but must have done!
:)iTunes £6.41 - some new ipod music would be nice!

Not too shabby. At least there'll be some little treats/relief from full costs during unemployment. Only one and a half more days in this wretched job.
    MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.

Back from our hols and back, with renewed enthusiasm, to some good old fashioned MSE money making:
    • Second car boot sale (it didn't all fit in the car for the first one!): £96 profit (First car boot sale made £125)
    • Remains of car boot sale sorted: Charity shop stock (already delivered) and ebay stock (but still needs listing urgh!).
    • Listing books on Green Metropolis or Amazon: Total of 106 books and spreadsheet set up to calculate earnings less postage.
    • Old game consols and games plus coin tin savings: Traded for a PS3 (Hmmm! Slightly counter productive but better than just splashing out I guess).
    • [STRIKE]12[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]13[/STRIKE] 14 Mystery shops booked for the next fortnight.
    • Veggie Patch: Loads of tomatos, two cucumbers, lettuce/salad leaves doing well, spuds still not big enough, squash getting there slowly. Seeds purchased for home grown plants requiring sowing in August and September... plus free manure sourced too!
    • Tree surgeon willing to work for a good meal and few beers booked to do some minor work in our garden (should allow a little bit more sunlight and rain to land on the veggie patch with out exposing it too much).
    • Job interview coming up and found a couple more to apply for (all are better paid and shorter commute than the previous full time job).
    MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.
