So excited...the Council paid us the longest outstanding arrears today. £2175 .... whey hey. And the tenants who I have to chase every single month for their rent, paid on time. Only wish I did the lottery now

Looks like the Arrears Policy Letters worked (well while it's fresh in their heads anyway).

Off to dump...small boys room must weigh half of what it did last week.

Bad bad day after all. Went to dump and while lifting a bag of Small Boy's carp (allegedly) the bottom fell out. And what fell out? 1 pair mens suit trousers brand new with tags, 2 pairs shorts bnwt, 1 teeshirt bnwt, 1 checked shirt new, binoculars etc etc.

So the double check to keep anything to one side which can go to the charity shop - ignored, anything that can be ebayed - ignored.

Basically he wanted his comuter fixed so everything he personally didn't want or like went straight to the dump. I shan't disclose how close he came to joining it in case anyone from Childline is reading!

But what a stroke of luck that the bag burst! I hope those items are on ebay now?

They are in the pile thanks Seax. Your sanity is appreciated - I've lost the plot.

Gawd only knows what was other the other six bags that did get skipped!

Oh I really sympathise. My parents are downsizing and vast bootloads of stuff have gone to the dump or to Oxfam. I have rescued a few saleable treasures but can't bear to think of the many more that eluded me.

hi there, wow what a rollercoaster you have had for the last 18 months or so. It made me count my blessings I can tell you

Well done on not letting DB get away with such a carp policy on cancellation. I really hate how they try to screw you for extra money.

And also well done on finally getting some arrears paid. With your new money saving ways, I am guessing that you can stretch it quite a long way.

Just wondering if you had thought about selling a property to fund the work on your own place, plus pay off debts? Or is it still worth hanging on to them more?

good luck with the DLA forms 20 years ago when I was trying to fill in forms for disability allowance, they were a right so and so then. I know one thing that I have heard on here, is that don't sugar coat the pill. Ie tell it how your OH is on his worst day.

will keep an eye out for your thread

    Thanks Seax and Chev.

I must admit to literally just surfacing, last nights busta-blood-vessel seems to have just that and I spend overnight and this morning with the migraine from hell. On the plus side I know if I play possum they often give up and leave me alone in a day, if I play big and brave then I get 3 days of payback.

My dad is downsizing to come here so I've asked him just to leave well alone until I've got this place cleared and the builders in, then we can tackle him.

All the flats were remortgaged in last year so all have tie ins. That with the flattened house prices mean that we recoup very little selling one at the moment. On the plus side they were meant to be self-financing but a distasterous run of tenants moving, interest rate rises, voids and blowing up washing machines means that we get this years rent tax free.

So if the consulting gods could come up with a wee contract for me then that together with the fabby tips here should see us through.

I've decided I've got Kissjenn Flu which is 10 times worse than man-flu cos I feel bluuuuugggghhhhhhhhhhh.

Managed to do Ebay and Amazon postings so no-one would complain and now just sitting here feeling sorry for myself.

Opened evening paper and the Gym story is in. Big Duncan's Gym are defending themselves saying that the Office of Fair Trading said the contract is fine. OFT didn't seem to have the same opinion when I called this afternoon and have requested copies of everything. So absolutely not giving up. The contract is so holey it's almost Godly!!

I have paid their latest offer as the last thing I want is them playing silly b*ggers with debt collectors and the such. So we'll fight it from the stance of it's illegal, disciminatory and immoral. Papers agreed, lets see what OFT say now.

Wow!! It's been an eventful week for you hasn't it!! Well done for sticking to your guns re the gym. I was a member of a very well known gym & my membership tied me in for 12 months & then I thought I could leave after a months notice but it was a 'rolling year' so I had a 'window' to leave in after the first year. But I argued & argued & argued until they finally let it go, canceled my membership & refunded me the money that they had taken after I canceled my membership. Although it was completely my misunderstanding I had called & asked if I could canceled & someone said yes - that was the main point of my argument. I realise just how lucky I was now! You just think people would be reasonable don't you? Guess not anymore

Saw the story on the website and well done for sticking to your guns on this. Some comments at the bottom are agreeing with the gym (Muppets) but the commenters on that website tend to be very harsh. The majority seem to back you.

    Well done again :T
