Cheap Sony PS3 on Ebay from powerseller- Fingers crossed!

Hi all

I am looking forward to purchasing a PS3 and when I saw a PS3 on a buyit for £155 I coundn't believe it!
Can someone please tell me that I am not being paranoid and that in fact that this look like a scam. The item number is or should i say was 270388889315. Being advertised as
SONY PLAYSTATION 3 80 GB
THE ELITE GAMING CONSOLE
CONSOLE WITH ALL LEADS BOX AND ACCESSORIES AS YOU WOULD BUY IN THE SHOPS
PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL MY CONSOLES ARE AS NEW AND COME IN BOX AS YOU WOULD BUY IN THE SHOPS AND IF YOUR NOT COMPLETELY HAPPY I WILL OFFER FULL REFUND
DELIVERY TIME IS APPROX 15-17 DAYS AS THE CONSOLES ARE ON ORDER
POSTAGE IS FREE AND PACKAGING FREE ALSO
NO RESERVE

The seller has a rating of 850 however when I looked at the recent completed listings he had sold quite a few. The other thing I noticed was that he mentions that delivery time is 15-17 days. So is it one of those that the will take as much money as they can and run?
Can you report these kind of people as it looks like a lot of people are about to lose a lot of money??

Thanks

I tend to think if it looks too good to be true then it is but Feedback says different.

I haven't checked through totally but does it look like people have actually recieved the items?

I know, thats the weird thing about it. It actually looks legit. however I will keep an eye on the seller and see if those people receive their PS3's
  • They look to me as though they could be refurbished or returns.
In the description he says all his consoles are AS NEW and come in box as you would buy in shops.(does as new mean new ?)
The listing is now ended but in case he sells some more and you are interested i would be asking where they came from, why so cheap and why take so long for delivery, and not forgetting the all important guarantee, and if he is genuine then he would not mind answering your questions.
If they are returns or refurbished then its not such a good bargain as if they were new.

If you look at his feedback as a buyer he seems to be buying ex display models.

But if you compare the prices from what he buys and what he sells he seems to be selling at less than or similar to what hes paid for the items. Even with his powerseller discount after the fees and free postage he must be making a loss.

    This is a weird one

I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to sell stuff on ebay that you don't have to hand or in stock, so if ebay saw this liting they would pull it on the grounds of pre-selling.

That aside, the price is too good to be true by far and I doubt any one of the buyers are going to be seeing a PS3, even if they do get their money back.

You may be right. It's possible though that they're someone that got married in '94, had a kid in '94, has nearly 2000 different ebay accounts... OK, the last one's unlikely :p

On topic... I'd guess they're either ex-display, factory returns, or imported and then chipped to run PAL software instead of NTSC.

Another idea could be they're not selling them with 80GB hard drives they've actually got 20GB drives in them (they sell the 80GB drives seperately, and for a few quid). If you do buy one (after all, it's a good price if it's genuine), take the bottom panel off, unscrew the blue screw, and check the hard drive.

There must be a catch. Maybe its not an obvious one but one will be there. If it is refurbished then for £150 its still a good deal. I'll be watching this like a hawk waiting to see the outcome.
