having just been to Somerfield. . .
think it could have been my first trip to one
and was only tempted to go on the basis that there beer was the cheapest I could find i noticed the big sign outside saying that the BOGOF on the olive oil required a card, so thought I'd leave it till another day ha ha ha,but then realised that all the goods I was getting required the card, so asked at the till for a card - which they duly got with a smile - honestly, then said that we could just fill the card in and send it off whenever
till assistant was brilliant and was really pleased that we had saved £20 plus a bit more!!!! so was I
So a big cheer for Somerfield from me!!!!!!!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
To you who thought it was a good idea to load up your trolley with frozen food etc, have you thought about the poor checkout operator, (who has no bearing on company policies) who will be left with all your stuff and it isn't their fault? Stop moaning, i bet you have loyalty cards for other stores and don't make all this fuss. You have a choice, you can find somewhere else to shop. Stop whinging and get a life. >:(This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Have a Somerfields by me & the scheme works fine. I agree that it would be easy to get conned if there were not signs by the offers stating you need a saver card - which there is. If you get to the check out & they charge you full wack - they will give you a card free so you get the discount or you return the goods.0

Its all very well saying get a life and stop whigeing - we have all got our faculties (well nearly all). I have elderly relatives some who have had strokes etc. They do not always have the wherewithall to see that they need a card or see the cards (if they are clearly displayed). I have been with them several times and pointed out about the offers needing a card, which we have used, so if I have had to do it several times while accompanying more vunerable than myself how many times does a little old dear who doesn' t realise about the cards get over charged. Even if asked at the till they don't always understand still and get confused about the card and payment. Yes if you are happy with the cards please by all means carry on - I'm not stopping anyone, all I'm trying to point out is that if we are overcharged we will go back. Will some little old lady on a limited pension (it disgusts me that out pensiones have to live on special offers and reduced items) be too scared/embarrassed/confused to ask why she has been overcharged. I have a life Karren - I'm concerned about others that are not able to live their lives to the full.0

I agree with halloweequeen, this is bad practice especilly for the vulnerable elderly. It's also bad practice for other shoppers too. Having or not having the card is not the real issue it's the way they are handling it.
I am 60 and I have got a life but I still object to being hoodwinked, as someone else said about scanning the walls, smallprint etc, Life's too short for that.Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)
Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.

just want to make some things clear.... this is more for the earlier messages... you cannot report somerfield to the trading standards for misadvertising as in no way are they stopping you from buying the product at the original price, any saver card deals are maked on all bits of advertising that need it, and there not stopping anyone from obtaining a saver card. so the easiest thing to do is just sign up for the FREE card and use it EVERYTIME you go to the till, easy. I have to agree with karren a bit, why are people moaning about this! Theres alot more important things you could be voicing your concerns over but instead you harass some poor checkout girl, who probaly/hopefully doesn't give a care in the world to what you consider is an outrage and just wants to earn her wage, if your going to complain just write to the director of the company, im sure/hope they have an answer that will stop you all moaning. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I have not once complained to a checkout girl, its not their fault. I have complained to Somerfield and got a crappy reply. If you don't want to see people moaning about Somerfields - don't read this thread! Yes get a free card, easy - yes it is. Unless you are confuses through illness/old age etc, then - not so easy. I see this happening a lot to vunerable people - I only go in Somerfields because its where these folk have always shopped and I accompany them, I have got a card so it covers all. Try taking someone thats had a stroke or something and see how they get on. I'm sure there are things that get other people worked up that probably wouldn't faze me at all, so let me have my vent on here about Somerfields!0

I dont beleive it!! I went to sommerfields on tuesday and got through the checkout without the girl having to ring the bell ONCE !!
Im still in a state of shock. thats the first time ever in 9 years !!!
hate that shop0 -
With a loyality scheme like this is it any wounder that Somerfields are not doing very well compared to some other supermarkets????Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0

I shop in Somerfield regularly and am overcharged EVERY time - once by £5+ (and I don't just mean on the bogof offers). Now I check my receipt before I leave the shop and complain. It's got to the stage now that the supervisor says "If this lady says it's £2.50 (or whatever) then it is!"0
