    Hi folks,

Has anyone experienced the same problems since this morning? There have been no further reports but I thought I should check..

    Webby

No more problems, everything working like a dream! Thanks. What was the problem with the site? (Just curious.)

If you do that, it won't remember you! ;)

I haven't checked, but I imagine the 'remember me' function er, remembers you, by storing a cookie - do you have cookies disabled for this site, perhaps? :)

Can someone please answer me why a thread with over 5000 posts puts strain on the servers? Surely if it aint deleted (as opposed to closed) it wont make any difference.

at a guess because every time someone views the thread the entire thing is accessed?

Technically you only access 1 particular page so i can't see how that works.

The 'pages' are created by their server when you request that particular page, using the information stored in a database. I assume that it is set up in such a way that accessing large threads mean a long seek through the thread to get to the relevant posts.

I've been experiencing this problem again twice just now, in the Gambling IOL board, both times when I clicked on the http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=41
link at the top of the page, whilst viewing a thread within the board - anyone else got this?
