I find that the ones with wider top straps are much more comfy than those with little narrow bands over the foot. Also the lighter weight the shoes are, the less "drag" it involves when walking in them.
I'm a novice too but determined to get the hang of them this year, and the above tips seem to help.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Only joking, I have no problems wearing sandals with bits between my toes, in fact I like things pushed between them  (if I'm sat on a chair with thin metal legs, it's a lovely feeling to put it between my big and next toe) - and I said you lot are weird :rotfl:
What are the fit flops like, I've heard about them but do they really do what they say they do
I don't mind the feeling between my toes it's the rubbing and bruised feeling that get to me!!
I don't know if they do all they say they do - there's mixed stories about them but you can defo feel you butt and hamstring muscles later if you've done a bit of wallking in them.
These are like the ones I bought

I can wear leather ones but not the plastic ones. Like OP describes I get a bruised and tender feeling. Never been able to wear them until a friend persuaded by to try some with a softer suede post, and that was easier, and now I can tolerate soft leather, but plastic is unbearable.0

Try surgical spirit applied a few times a day to the affected area. I always use it when going into sandals at the start of the summer to toughen up my feet after they have 'gone soft' being covered up all winter!:D
I'm thinking of buying Fit Flops, so would be interested to know how you get on. I'm more than a little worried about wasting my money if I can't get used to them:eek::beer: My glass is half full :beer:0 -

I got them for £5 in the sale last year and they're so comfy I'm even willing to pay full price for a new pair! :eek:Dum Spiro Spero0 -
Mmmm I think it's the strap not the toe post itself thats rubbing.:wave:0

I have a pair of Birkenstocks with a toe-post, which I bought last year. I too had never been able to wear this sort of sandal before.... until now! They really are (for me) incredibly comfortable.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0

For those asking about fitflops - I love mine and wear them all day long at work (and I am on my feet for a fair amount of time). I find them extremely comfortable:j.
As to the toning effects they are supposed to have on bum and thighs - well that may well be true but it doesn't really show through the "padding" I'm carrying on those regions:o I do think they are worth the price though
