The customers are really lucky to use coupons in Tesco unlike the Staff. One of the staff members was given a warning for using the coupons and paying just pennies. The management keeps an eye on that member for using the coupons. They check the coupons used by that member of staff specially... now all the sales assistants in that store are reluctant to even serve the person in question coz they will be in trouble too.
Although Tesco is a very good company, the culture of the company and the people who work there really suck. Especially there are many managers who are computer illiterates and have been in Tescos for over 20 yrs and have very little knowledge on how things change and work. Unless these ones change I guess with this kinda work ethics and culture Tesco cant beat Wallmart in worldmarket . Poor member of staff that one, going thru umpteen meetings for coupon usage.
I agree with you totally when you say Tesco can not beat Walmart! Being a Yank I can honestly say that until Tesco (and many other companies in the UK that deal with the public)start talking to their employees and having regular meetings (heck, they could put a memo about store policies in with the wage slips - not rocket science to figure that one out!) will never beat Walmart in customer service! You need to involve your staff with the running of the store and make them feel their job is worthwhile. It is only common sense that if you have happy staff then they will be more productive, if they are grumpy and nasty all you will get is high absenteeism, high employee turnover and more customer complaints. Just today I stopped at a Tesco Express that I know has recently had a change in management with the new manager being from the Express I have been using for months now as they allow coupons, so I wanted to see if I will be able to use coupons at this Express now too as I had been told "no" months ago, well anyway, the new mangaer wasn't in but I had a very interesting chat with one of the staff. One of the things we talked about was the Tesco in town and she said, "I know I probably shouldn't say this, being an employee of Tesco, but I don't shop at the super store because the staff there are really nasty." I agreed with her as I don't shop there anymore because of the staff's attitude. That just tells me that the staff are not happy at all and just work beacuse they have to. If they were more involved with the running of the store, like they used to be, they would be more courteous to the customers and the customers would happily keep coming back. Okay! I'll get off my soapbox now!!Murphy knows me too well and sticks to me like glue!0 -

I heard that they actually get better pay than Asda checkout staff. It is just the staff (from cashiers to the checkout supervisor - mostly female staff ) attitude towards some customers (especially those using coupons :rotfl: meaning us lot!!!!) - old trouts are all grumpy! the young one couldn't care less - depending on their mood - if they know you they will talk to you, if not you are on your own.
Also post below on the newspaper thread:-Dr.Who-Who wrote: »Don't like Morrisons! & yes, Tesco & waitrose accept more coupons some stores accept unlimited coupons you could have £50 worth of vouchers & only pay less than £10 of your groceries.
Call Dundee 0800 number, told the CS that my T refused the £5 coupon - she called me back & told me that because of the barcode & my T is having problem scanning it. My T told Dundee that they will sort it out within an hour (told her thats too late, I have done my shopping & most T do not allowed customer to go in 2nd time on the same day & shop using coupon). Dundee understand my situation & nothing else was offered apart from putting my complaint to my T directly.RIP my dear dear parent : Mum aged 62 (17/5/1990) & Dad aged 89 (23/1/2012)0 -

I love how some people can be so cute
.
Its a database love, they tag you number to everything yuou buy, if they wanted to (and they prob do this) they will use statistical analysis to see you buy
Value grapefruit 90% of the time opposed to branded
Tomato soup but not chicken soup
Its all there for them to know.
This is one of the ways they decide what extra coupons to send you in with your quarterly vouchers as well as any till spits you might get lucky to get.Murphy knows me too well and sticks to me like glue!0 -

4. Keep trying today's coupons each day (I reckon T will amend the tills this week to recognise this moc if they can. It must be taking up huuuge amounts of man hours at stores and Dundee with all the queries with this single coupon).
HTH
I used to do this as a job, inventory control. In a store I worked at just before I moved here to the UK, it was my job to be sure all items in the store were in the database with the correct price for the tills to access when an item is scanned. If Tesco has the same pricing system (which I would thing they do) it can be done at store level which the authorization from head office. I hope they get this sorted soon!! I bought 4 papers today with the hope I'll be able to use them this week!!Murphy knows me too well and sticks to me like glue!0 -
